In the landscape of web3 gaming, Pixels has claimed the spotlight this month, registering over 115,000 Daily Active Unique Wallets (DAUWs) on Sky Mavis' Ronin blockchain. Ronin is the Ethereum sidechain most well known for the web3 game and blockbuster IP Axie Infinity. Analyzing November's trends through DappRadar data reveals Pixels' steady ascent, overshadowing its web3 counterparts. In this article, we unpick the latest data and break down the exciting new Guilds feature coming to Pixels Chapter 2.

Social RPG Pixels recently launched on Ronin after migrating from Polygon, it has quickly established itself as a leading web3 game, capturing the gaming community's interest and dominating on-chain activity. Despite a modest decline post-peak, Pixels remains a significant player in the web3 gaming arena. However, CEO Luke Barwikowski disclosed that approximately 40% of the game's active wallets are currently bots. Barwikowski has said that he and the team are committed to addressing this issue over time to ensure an authentic gaming experience.

The game, reminiscent of classic 16-bit role-playing adventures, immerses players in a pixel-art world, providing opportunities for interaction, virtual land farming, engaging in mini-games, and earning token rewards. Pixels stands out with its integration of select NFT profile picture (PFP) collections. Holders of recognized NFTs like the Bored Ape Yacht Club and CrypToadz can seamlessly incorporate their avatars in-game, introducing an additional layer of personalization. Most recently, Animoca Brands’s membership NFT collection Mocaverse unveiled plans to integrate a Mocaverse metagame into the Pixels universe.

Other highlights in the web3 gaming this month include the PC-based RPG Nine Chronicles, experiencing a rise to 35,000 daily active unique wallets, likely influenced by the release of Nine Chronicle M. The mobile version of Nine Chronicles is now available on both Google Play and the Apple Store, with support for in-app purchases, aligning with Planetarium Labs' strategy to introduce web3 games to a diverse user base. Backed by a $32 million funding round last year, Planetarium Labs has been making strides in the web3 gaming space. Alongside Nine Chronicles, the company recently introduced Verse8, an open-source decentralized roguelike RPG protocol, and Immortal Rising 2, a web3 competitive idle RPG game. According to DappRadar, the Monopoly-styled web3 mobile game Upland, which just raised $7 Million, has maintained a consistent presence with 20,000+ DAUWs this month. Lastly, to note is Sky Mavis' Axie Infinity which remains relatively stable at 15,000 DAUWs.

Pixels just revealed their newest Guilds (v1) feature coming to Chapter 2, drawing inspiration from successful projects like FriendTech and Stars Arena, aiming to enhance community building within the gameplay. Chapter 2 of Pixels will introduce gameplay changes, emphasizing collaboration within Guilds. Players unite to maximize production and achieve larger goals in the Pixels Universe.

Key highlights of Chapter 2 include:

  • New Resources & Tiering: Limited resource generation per land, not per player.
  • Exploration Skill: Guilds compete for the best in-game resources.

Players may purchase memberships to join a guild. A bonding curve determines the membership price to join a guild. Users can also choose to sell their memberships back at a price determined by the bonding curve. Guild Ranks will offer flexibility, allowing players to join multiple Guilds. The Guild with the most memberships becomes the player's Active Guild, with full control over permissions. Players can now acquire Guild Handles for $50,000 $BERRY, off-chain and non-transferable. Guild Charters, sold in $PIXEL, are prerequisites for Guilds to accept memberships.

Guild Watchlists, a free feature, are already live and enable Guilds to recruit and build communities. The top 20 Guilds with the largest watchlists receive free Guild Charters and early access to new functionalities.

The Guilds roadmap includes upcoming features:

  • Guild Memberships: Dec 2023 - Jan 2024
  • Guild Ranking: Jan 2024
  • Guild Gameplay: Feb 2024

Pixels' remarkable journey to the forefront of web3 gaming in November, surpassing 115,000 DAUWs on the Ronin blockchain, underscores its growing influence in the industry. The introduction of Guilds and the forthcoming Chapter 2 signifies a commitment to evolving gameplay and fostering a collaborative community. As the team navigates challenges like bot activity, Pixels' dedication to authenticity remains evident. With a roadmap promising continued enhancements, Pixels stands as a beacon of innovation in the web3 gaming landscape, poised to shape the future of web3 gaming with thoughtful experimentation and player-focused advancements. Keep an eye on Pixels for the unfolding chapters in its quest to redefine the gaming experience.
