Immutable (IMX), a global leader in web3 game development and publishing, has announced the release of Dread Awakening. This is first major expansion pack of Gods Unchained Season 2, and marks the next major milestone for Gods Unchained (GU), a leading web3 NFT trading card game (TCG).

We will also cover exclusive details on the debut and first-ever IP crossover between Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians (GoG). Guild of Guardians (GoG) being one of the more highly anticipated web3 games of the year, with over 1 million pre-registered players - also published by Immutable (IMX).

Cross IP Collaboration

Dread Awakening is the first major expansion pack for Gods Unchained Season 2. This newest release follows the Unleashing of the Dread and spills over from Guild of Guardians into the world of Eucos in Gods Unchained (GU). The deck’s Cosmic Horror theme echoes the ominous developers in the universe and introduces new mechanics and cards that will reshape the meta and hint at a bigger world than ever imagined. 

Gods Unchained Executive Producer, Daniel Paez, commented: “This was a really fun expansion for us to work on because we’ve been able to lean into the creativity and lore of Guild of Guardians, while working really closely and collaboratively with a team that is quite literally, sitting right next to me. We’ve been dropping hints about the Dread and a possible IP crossover, but today, I’m excited that we are finally able to confirm that our vision is finally here."

Crafting in Dread Awakening

Players will also have the ability to "unpack" their packs, build their deck against the Dread, and battle on the go, following the successful mobile release of Gods Unchained this past February. Since the game’s availability on iOS and Android devices, GUGods Unchainedhas seen over 60 percent increase in monthly active users.

Daniel Paez expressed enthusiasm about the news, stating: “What makes this even more exciting for me is the anticipation of things to come from this collaboration. IP crossovers are just the tip of the potential we can unleash with web3 gaming - true game interoperability is right around the corner."

Eighteen of the cards (6 rare, 6 epic, and 6 legendary) will only be available through crafting. Crafting is a relatively new feature in Gods Unchained, requiring players to sacrifice a specific selection of cards to craft the new ones. Crafting new cards is always limited, with the crafting options tied to specific sets, and closing when the sale for that set ends.

Dread Awakening will also apparently be bringing changes to Legendary crafting. Epic cards used during crafting will now downgrade to Meteorite Shine. Though technically, the input cards are still burned, and crafters will instead receive new, Meteorite versions of the epics.
