Treasure is undergoing significant changes as The Beacon, one of its key gaming partners, has announced its departure from the ecosystem. The Beacon shared this decision through its Discord channel, explaining that recent shifts in Treasure’s direction no longer align with its own goals. As a result, The Beacon has chosen to separate completely from the platform and urged its players to transfer their assets to Arbitrum as soon as possible.
The team behind The Beacon reassured its community that the game’s development plans remain unchanged and that they are well-funded with strong partnerships in place. They acknowledged that the decision to leave Treasure was made abruptly but emphasized that they are working to ensure a smooth transition. The Beacon also stated that they would provide further details on how they will unwind their integration with Treasure, including aspects related to the game’s launcher and marketplace.
The Beacon Announces Departure from Treasure
Combining features from both action RPG and roguelite genres, The Beacon is a game that takes you on an adventure in a dangerous fantasy world. Roguelites are games that feature the following two main elements: permadeath and procedurally generated levels.
With The Beacon, players will enter dungeons with a basic weapon of their choice, find upgrades to that weapon during their run through a dungeon, and lose those upgrades upon completion (whether they die or not). The dungeons will be procedurally generated so players will encounter a different set of challenges on every run.
This development follows a major leadership change at Treasure, as Karel Vuong, recently announced his departure. In a statement shared on social media, Vuong reflected on his three-year journey with Treasure, expressing pride in the progress made but acknowledging differences in vision between himself and the project’s original founder, John Patten.
Vuong mentioned that, while Treasure has gone through market cycles before, the project is now at a pivotal moment as it restructures for future growth. He explained that reducing the size of the core team was a necessary step to ensure that Treasure remains agile and well-positioned for 2025 and beyond. Despite stepping away from his leadership role, Vuong affirmed that he will continue to support the ecosystem as a strategic advisor.
Following Vuong’s departure, John Patten has resumed leadership of Treasure. As the project’s original founder, Patten was instrumental in Treasure’s early development, including key initiatives such as the MAGIC token launch and the introduction of its flagship game, Bridgeworld. Treasure has stated that it remains committed to building a connected gaming universe while adjusting its approach to better align with future opportunities in web3 gaming.
Treasure has addressed the situation publicly, attributing the recent changes to financial constraints that required the project to restructure. The team has emphasized that the adjustments were not solely a reaction to market conditions but rather a strategic decision to focus on long-term sustainability.
The departure of The Beacon, combined with internal leadership changes, marks a period of transition for Treasure. While the project has faced challenges, it continues to emphasize its commitment to developing a decentralized gaming ecosystem. Treasure’s leadership believes that by refining its focus and adjusting its structure, it can position itself for future success in the evolving web3 landscape.
As both Treasure and The Beacon move forward separately, the broader community will be closely watching how each project adapts to these changes and what impact this transition will have on the blockchain gaming ecosystem.
