Star Atlas Introduces Crew Cards Utility in SAGE Labs

On September 12th, 2024, Star Atlas will launch the long-anticipated Crew Cards utility in SAGE Labs. This browser-based strategy game is part of the evolving Star Atlas metaverse, where players manage fleets and engage in immersive space-based gameplay. Crew Cards will allow players to enhance crafting efficiency, making this update a significant milestone for the game's community.

What is Star Atlas?

Star Atlas is a next-gen gaming metaverse emerging from the confluence of state-of-the-art blockchain technologies, real-time graphics, and multiplayer video games. Using Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite real-time graphics technology allows for cinematic quality video game visuals. In addition, blockchain technology using Solana establishes a largely serverless and secure gameplay experience. Player assets obtained and traded within Star Atlas create an economy that replicates tangible world assets and ownership.

Introducing Crew Cards

Crew Cards represent unique crew members within the Star Atlas universe, now separated from their ships and offered as individual NFTs. These cards, assignable to any ship, bring versatility and strategic depth to gameplay. Each Crew Card belongs to one of seven species — Sogmians, Mierese, Punaabs, Usturs, Manus Ultima Divina (MUD), Photoli, or Tufa — each with its own background story.

In addition to species, Crew Cards are categorized by rarity and one of seven distinct aptitudes: Command, Flight, Engineering, Medical, Scientist, Operator, or Hospitality. Players can maximize the effectiveness of their fleets by assigning crew members to roles aligned with their aptitudes. For instance, placing a crew member with a Medical aptitude in a Medical role will accelerate their growth in that position, enhancing the overall efficiency of the fleet.

Initial Crew Cards Utility in SAGE Labs

When Crew Packs were airdropped and sold in August 2024, Star Atlas first introduced the concept of Crew Cards and their initial utility. One of the key features coming to SAGE Labs is the ability to improve crafting efficiency. The more crew members players have, the higher the crafting speed for items within the game. As Star Atlas continues to grow, new utilities and roles for Crew Cards will be introduced, expanding their impact on gameplay.

With the launch of the Crew Cards utility, the game will automatically destroy all fleets on September 12th, sending them back to the Central Space Station for players to reorganize their setups. Enhancements in the crew management process are also expected, making it easier for players to import and withdraw Crew Cards from the game. For instance, a script shared via the Star Atlas Discord will facilitate the mass transfer of crew members from Ledger to SAGE.

Outside of SAGE Labs, Crew Cards will also play a significant role in Star Atlas’ future updates, particularly with the Unreal Engine 5 release. Players will be able to use their Crew Cards as avatars, allowing them to build and manage a trainable crew for their ships in an RPG-style mobile app experience.

Component Bundles and Ship Configuration

Another important feature for Star Atlas players is the Component Bundles. These bundles consist of high-tier ship parts and weapons that were once integral to ships but are now offered separately, similar to Crew Cards. While Crew Packs were airdropped in August, Component Bundles will be distributed to eligible holders at a future date, likely coinciding with the launch of a new game feature.

Component Bundles will enable players to upgrade their ships with a variety of high-performance parts, categorized by tier. These parts include key components such as shield generators, warp drives, thrusters, and weapons systems. Once the Ship Configuration Protocol is activated, players can either convert their Component Bundles into individual parts or trade them on the galactic marketplace.

It is important to note that, following the snapshot date for Component Bundles, new ships purchased from the marketplace will only include basic components—known as Tier 0 parts. These parts are not tradable and will be automatically replaced when higher-tier components are installed.

Future Developments in Star Atlas

As Star Atlas continues to expand its metaverse, both Crew Cards and Component Bundles will become essential assets in the game. With the upcoming Ship Configuration Protocol, ships will transition from semi-fungible tokens to fully customizable NFTs.

Players will be able to personalize their ships, upgrading components to align with their playstyle and strategy, further enhancing the depth of gameplay in Star Atlas. The launch of Crew Cards on September 12th marks another significant step in Star Atlas’ ongoing evolution, providing players with new opportunities to optimize their fleets and engage with the ever-expanding world of SAGE Labs.
