Somnia partners with Google Cloud to integrate AI agent tools and advanced security into its blockchain network, supporting scalable development for the web3 gaming ecosystem.
Somnia, a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain focused on gaming and entertainment, has announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud. The partnership, revealed at EthCC in Cannes, integrates Google Cloud’s AI development tools, infrastructure, and cybersecurity capabilities with Somnia’s blockchain network. This effort aims to strengthen blockchain-based development tools for game creators and improve the scalability, intelligence, and security of web3 gaming environments.

The announcement follows a significant milestone for Somnia, as the platform recently surpassed one billion transactions on its testnet. The testnet recorded 250 million transactions in less than one month and reached a peak of 80 million transactions in a single day. These figures underscore the scalability and performance of the network. Backed by a $270 million fund and supported by Improbable, Somnia has built an infrastructure capable of exceeding one million transactions per second, achieving sub-second finality and maintaining low transaction costs.
Somnia’s network architecture is designed with the specific demands of game developers in mind, offering high throughput and a decentralized foundation for managing large volumes of concurrent activity. Its validator ecosystem includes organizations such as BCW Group, Luganodes, B-Harvest, and Kiln. Over 60 projects are currently active on the Somnia testnet, including web3 games like Sparkball, Variance, Masks of the Void, and Maelstrom.
Somnia Collaborates with Google Cloud
A key component of the collaboration is Google Cloud’s role as a network validator on Somnia’s blockchain. This enables Somnia to leverage enterprise-level technical infrastructure, enhancing both the security and decentralization of the network. Developers building on Somnia will also gain access to Google Cloud’s integrated data and AI platform, which includes real-time blockchain data streaming via Google Cloud Pub/Sub and indexed blockchain datasets within BigQuery. These capabilities offer powerful tools for analyzing player behavior and optimizing game performance or monetization strategies.
Security is a major focus of the partnership. The integration brings in Google Cloud’s threat intelligence capabilities through Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm known for addressing both web2 and web3 security challenges. Mandiant will support Somnia’s ecosystem by securing key areas such as private key infrastructure, smart contract deployments, and token generation events. This level of protection is particularly relevant as Somnia prepares to move beyond its testnet phase and into more widespread adoption.

The collaboration also extends into the area of AI-driven game development. Somnia is adopting Google Cloud’s agent development ecosystem, which includes frameworks such as ADK, A2A, and MCP. These tools will enable developers to integrate intelligent, interoperable agents into their on-chain applications. This could allow for the creation of dynamic non-playable characters, AI-powered market behavior, and adaptive gameplay features that respond to player actions in real time.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Paul Thomas, founder of Somnia, stated that the partnership is foundational for building an "agentic, on-chain internet," noting that the combined technologies will give developers an accessible platform to create immersive and intelligent gaming experiences. He also highlighted the advantages for developers in using blockchain data through BigQuery to better understand player behavior, optimize gameplay, and improve monetization with AI support.
James Tromans, managing director for web3 at Google Cloud, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the web3 ecosystem by offering secure infrastructure and scalable AI tools. He noted that the collaboration with Somnia will help developers build agent-based applications while benefiting from reliable network performance and integrated data solutions.
Somnia Collaborates with Google Cloud
The features introduced through this partnership are expected to be available on the Somnia network later this summer. Developers are being invited to build and test projects on the testnet, taking advantage of the newly integrated capabilities. The collaboration between Somnia and Google Cloud marks a notable step toward the convergence of decentralized infrastructure and intelligent agents, providing game developers with tools and support systems tailored for modern web3 environments.
As Somnia continues to expand its platform, the collaboration with Google Cloud is positioned to support the evolving needs of blockchain entertainment developers and strengthen the underlying technology for future applications in decentralized gaming. The games mentioned in the article:
