Neon Machine, the US-based developer, has announced the latest playtest for its popular PC-based extraction shooter, Shrapnel. Dubbed STX3.1, this highly anticipated event will run from June 24th to June 28th, offering participants the chance to win a share of 1 million SHRAP tokens, valued at approximately $100,000.

Shrapnel, the Avalanche-based PC extraction shooter, only recently unveiled its much-anticipated NFT marketplace with new weapon skins, made in partnership with prominent web3 partners and individuals. Now the team has revealed STX3.1 their newest playtest.
One of the most awaited features in this new Shrapnel playtest is the ability to craft weapon skins. Players can now collect different fragments during gameplay and combine three unique fragments of the same rarity to create a custom skin. These fragments are tradable on the in-game marketplace, adding a new layer of engagement and personalization for players.
New Weapon Skins
In a shift from the traditional leaderboard ranking, the 1 million SHRAP prize pool will now be distributed based on mission completions. Players will earn rewards for achieving specific in-game objectives such as reaching a certain number of kills, extracting fragments, and crafting items. This change aims to diversify the ways players can earn SHRAP and enhance their overall PC gaming experience.
The STX3.1 playtest will feature six new missions, each designed to challenge players and reward them with SHRAP, weapon skin fragments, and wildcard NFTs.
Notably, three of these missions will award SHRAP tokens directly. Additionally, half of the SHRAP prize pool will be allocated as bonus rewards for Operator holders who manage to complete all in-game missions successfully.
Shrapnel Weapon Skin Fragments
To participate in the STX3.1 playtest, players must own or purchase an Extraction Pack before the event begins. This requirement ensures that only prepared and dedicated players can compete for the substantial rewards on offer.
Throughout 2024, Shrapnel has continued to build momentum with regular playtests and the introduction of new features. Recent updates include direct debit and credit card payment options, a new staking system, and craftable skins. The game's SHRAP token, which launched in November 2023, operates on its own Avalanche-based subnet, enhancing the game's economic ecosystem.
