Serum City, the city-building game developed by Novel Labs and Faraway, has officially launched, introducing an Ethereum NFT pass system. Owners of NFTs from collections like Mutant Hounds and Bored Ape Yacht Club now have the opportunity to claim a complimentary pass, granting access to the first season of gameplay. Users are only required to cover standard Ethereum gas fees during the minting process.
In an effort to be more inclusive, the developers have outlined plans to gradually expand access with each new in-game season. Currently, around 39,000 eligible NFTs from Mutant Ape Yacht Club and related projects can claim passes.
Serum City operates on Ethereum NFTs and employs ApeCoin as its in-game currency, showcasing Mutant Ape characters. Notably, Serum City is an independent project and not directly affiliated with Bored Ape and Mutant Ape creator Yuga Labs. Instead, it utilizes decentralized commercial rights offered to owners of Yuga's Ape NFT projects.
Although Serum City is not an official Yuga project, co-developer Faraway has established a closer collaboration with Yuga Labs. This collaboration extends to upcoming projects, including a free-to-play version of Yuga's Dookey Dash game, "Dookey Dash: Unclogged," set to launch this quarter. Additionally, an Otherside-themed mobile game is teased for the second half of the year, further solidifying the collaboration.
Serum City represents a noteworthy convergence of blockchain technology and gaming, providing exclusive experiences for NFT collectors. As the first season unfolds, anticipation builds for the game's potential impact on the NFT gaming landscape and the broader scope of decentralized gaming ecosystems.
