In the fast-evolving landscape of web3 gaming, innovation knows no bounds. We had the pleasure of sitting down for an exclusive interview with Alex Paley Co-Founder of Faraway, building Mini Royale: Nations. Alex Paley: Trailblazing the Future of Gaming

Faraway's story begins with Alex Paley, one of its co-founders, whose passion for gaming ignited at a young age. Before Faraway, Alex had already carved his path in the gaming industry, working with renowned studios like Glu and Scopely. However, it was the desire to create an open gaming economy that led him on a new adventure.

My expertise lies in making forward-type games, such as RPGs and strategy games. At Faraway, we've created several games you might have played, including Mini Royale: Nations, which is a first-person shooter, Faraway Land, a base builder, and we're working on Serum City, another base builder set in the Mutant Ape Club universe, among other exciting projects.

Interoperability: The Heart of Faraway's Vision

Interoperability is the buzzword of the web3 era, and Faraway fully embraces it. In Faraway's world, assets are not confined to a single game but have utility across multiple titles. Traditional gaming often locks assets within closed ecosystems, but Faraway is changing the game. It's all about giving players more value for their purchases and fostering a player-centric ecosystem.

Alex's insights into interoperability are enlightening, showcasing how assets from one game can seamlessly move into another, breaking the boundaries that traditionally defined gaming experiences.

We have experimented with both visual and economic interoperability. For example, our Mini Royale avatars are visually playable in around 9,000 other virtual worlds and experiences, thanks to our integration with ReadyPlayerMe. We've also implemented economic interoperability between Mini Royale and Faraway Land, where assets produced in Faraway Land can be used and equipped by Mini Royale characters, allowing players to earn currency in one game and spend it in the other.

Empowering Creators: A Collaborative Ecosystem

Faraway understands that the gaming community thrives on creativity, and it's actively involving creators of all sizes. Custom skins designed by creators can be sold in the Faraway Shop, a marketplace with seamless cryptocurrency payouts. This democratizes the process, empowering artists to monetize their creations and build communities within the Faraway ecosystem.

The Faraway team is also actively onboarding 3D modelers and artists to create custom skins, making it easy for creators to contribute to the gaming world. This approach ensures that smaller creators have a significant role to play alongside established studios.

Creators can contribute to our games by designing assets that have utility not just in one game but across multiple games in our ecosystem. Our goal is to support and empower creators to have a real role in player-driven economies. We're excited to see how creators will use these opportunities to build their communities and make their assets more social and valuable.

Blockchain Integration: True Ownership in Gaming

Blockchain technology is at the core of Faraway's philosophy, granting players true ownership of in-game assets. This means you can buy, sell, trade, and use your assets across various games within and outside the Faraway ecosystem. It's a game-changer, revolutionizing the traditional model where players don't truly own the items they purchase.

Blockchain and cryptocurrency integration enhance the in-game economy, ensuring secure and transparent transactions. Fast, borderless transactions with instant payouts in cryptocurrencies open up new possibilities for players to participate actively in the gaming economy.

Blockchain technology plays a crucial role in our games by enabling true ownership of in-game assets, including characters, skins, and other items. In traditional gaming, players purchase these items, but they don't truly own them; they're bound to the game's ecosystem and controlled by the developer. With blockchain, players have full ownership of their assets, which means they can buy, sell, trade, and even use these assets across multiple games and experiences, both within and outside the Faraway ecosystem.

Exciting Developments on the Horizon

Faraway has exciting projects in the pipeline, including the upcoming Serum City, a base builder set in the Mutant Ape Club universe. Mini Royale: Nations Season 5 introduces a campaign mode, aiming to simplify onboarding for new players and enhance the overall experience. The Faraway Shop, launching soon, empowers creators to design and sell interoperable gaming assets, opening new opportunities for artists within the ecosystem.

Final Thoughts

Faraway stands at the forefront of web3 gaming, redefining the rules of engagement. With a focus on interoperability, empowerment of creators, and blockchain integration, they're not just creating games; they're shaping the future of gaming. As we look ahead, the horizon is filled with promises of a more inclusive, player-centric, and creative gaming world, where boundaries are shattered, and possibilities are limitless. Faraway is leading the way.
