Flow Q1 2025 Report Shows Growth in Gaming

Flow, the consumer-focused blockchain launched by Dapper Labs in 2020, showed steady growth in the first quarter of 2025, according to the newly released State of Flow Q1 2025 report from Messari. Known for early innovations in account abstraction and user experience, Flow continued to develop its infrastructure this quarter, particularly by expanding its cross-chain capabilities. The network is now integrated with more than 100 other blockchains through partnerships with LayerZero, Axelar, and deBridge. This has improved composability and simplified onboarding for developers, making Flow more accessible within the broader web3 ecosystem.

NFT Sector Leads in Activity and User Growth

NFTs remain the most active sector on the Flow network, with both trading activity and user acquisition increasing by 7% quarter-over-quarter, despite broader macroeconomic uncertainty. The momentum has been supported by strong partnerships with established entertainment and sports brands including the NFL, NBA, Disney, Barbie, Hot Wheels, and UFC. These collaborations have focused on gamified and mobile-first experiences, allowing users to engage with IP in new digital formats.

Two of Flow’s flagship NFT collections—NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day—continued to dominate trading volume in Q1 2025. Together, these collections accounted for 80% of the $8.1 million in total NFT volume during the quarter. Beyond simple ownership, these NFTs are used in interactive formats such as prediction challenges and tournaments, deepening user engagement.

Integration with OpenSea Broadens NFT Accessibility

Flow’s partnership with OpenSea, launched in February 2025, played a significant role in driving additional NFT activity during the quarter. The integration allows users to buy, sell, and earn XP through the Flow Wallet directly on OpenSea. This development lowered barriers for users already familiar with mainstream marketplaces and supported the visibility of Flow-based collections. In March, NBA Top Shot became tradable on OpenSea and remained among the top five trending collections on the platform for four consecutive weeks.

Gaming Sector Gains Traction with Sports Titles

Although Flow entered the gaming sector relatively recently in 2023, it is beginning to see results, particularly in titles tied to sports. The Metaverse Football League (MFL) has emerged as the most successful game on the network. In Q1 2025, MFL generated $1 million in secondary market volume from sales of Packs and Players, marking a 130% quarter-over-quarter increase. The performance of MFL reflects the alignment between Flow’s user base and sports-related gaming content.

User Activity and DeFi Usage Increase

Overall network activity on Flow also grew during Q1 2025. Average daily active addresses increased by 144% compared to the previous quarter, and daily transaction volume rose by 10.6%. These figures suggest rising engagement across various applications on the platform.

In addition to growth in NFTs and gaming, Flow’s decentralized finance (DeFi) sector also reached new highs. Total Value Locked (TVL) on the network hit a record $44.4 million in Q1. Protocols such as KittyPunch and MORE Markets contributed to this growth by offering new financial instruments and trading opportunities. This diversification indicates that Flow is expanding its use cases beyond its traditional strengths in digital collectibles.
