Disney has partnered with Dapper Labs, the creators of NBA Top Shot, to introduce Disney Pinnacle. This "collaborative digital pin platform", operating on the Flow blockchain, aims to reimagine the tradition of pin collecting in the web3 space.

The initiative promises a blend of characters spanning a century of Disney, along with figures from Pixar and iconic heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe. Users will have the opportunity to buy and trade NFTs within the platform, creating a unique digital collectible experience.

The Collectibles market size is estimated at $462 billion in 2023 and is experiencing significant growth driven by several key factors. Firstly, the increasing accessibility of online platforms has widened the reach of collectors, enabling them to easily buy, sell, and showcase items. Secondly, the emotional and nostalgic value attached to collectibles resonates with a broader audience, fostering demand.

Moreover, the emergence of blockchain technology has enhanced authenticity and provenance tracking, addressing concerns over counterfeit items. The integration of collectibles into pop culture and media has amplified their visibility, attracting new enthusiasts.

Building on their past web3 ventures, Disney previously released limited-edition NFT Star Wars toys in partnership with Cryptoys, a company in which Dapper Labs is an investor. Priced at $39.99, these digital toys provided a glimpse into Disney's exploration of the web3. Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, noted that the development of Disney Pinnacle draws from the valuable lessons learned, particularly from the success of NBA Top Shot, which saw over $200 million in monthly trading in early 2021.

Disney Pinnacle is an all-new product designed from the ground up to incorporate everything we’ve learned over the past few years. Fans anywhere will be able to collect dynamic pins on their phone and trade instantly and securely with each other no matter where they are in the world.

As outlined in a joint statement on Dapper Labs' website, Disney Pinnacle is set to launch on Apple's App Store by the end of this year. This move signifies Disney's continued foray into the web3 landscape, offering fans a unique and socially engaging platform to collect and trade their favorite characters digitally. Our only question is when will they announce the creation of a web3 game?
