Dot Play has been awarded a grant by Polkadot’s Decentralized Futures funding program to enhance gaming on the Polkadot network. The specific amount of the grant has not been disclosed. Dot Play will offer integration tools and long-term business development support through a new hub called the DotPlay Gaming Portal to support game developers building on Polkadot. This portal will provide resources and facilitate project onboarding.

What is Decentralized Futures?

Polkadot’s Decentralized Futures initiative aims to distribute $20 million and 5 million DOT tokens, valued at $31 million, to support new projects on the Polkadot network. One of the most notable teams to join Polkadot is Mythical Games, which moved from Ethereum in 2023. Mythical Games’ portfolio includes NFL Rivals, Nitro Nation World Tour, and upcoming games based on the Blankos Block Party and Pudgy Penguins IPs.

Mythical Games announced in late April of this year that it was transitioning from Ethereum to Polkadot for the launch of its new web3 gaming ecosystem called the Mythos Chain (MYTH). On Mythos, gaming partners have the opportunity to create their own chains, aiming to establish the largest and most interconnected gaming ecosystem in web3.

Despite achieving significant success on Ethereum, including a user base of over 650,000 and over two million downloads of the popular game NFL Rivals Mythical decided to move to Polkadot due to the network's superior speed and scalability capabilities.

John Linden, Mythical’s CEO, stated: “The decision to leave the Ethereum ecosystem stems from a combination of issues surrounding relatively slow transaction speeds, even with L2 roll-ups, that would ultimately hinder our scaling plans with our new games this year.”

A dedicated team from Dot Play will be available to assist developers. The team will offer guidance on web3 game design and integrating Polkadot’s technology. They will also connect developers with other teams within the Polkadot network to encourage collaboration and ecosystem growth.

• Game Advisory and Technical Support: Guidance on game design and blockchain integration.
• Ecosystem Tooling and Partnerships: Development of SDKs for Unity and Unreal, and other tools for game development on Polkadot.
