Cambria's New Burn-to-Earn Model

Cambria's New Burn-to-Earn Model

Cambria expands its web3 economy by introducing Cosmetic Shards, shard-burning rewards, and on-chain auctions. Learn how these systems enhance Core NFT utility and cosmetic distribution.

Cambria has introduced a set of new features designed to further develop its player-driven web3 economy. The update focuses on the integration of Cosmetic Shards into its existing Core NFT system, enhancing utility through on-chain auctions and burn-to-earn mechanics. These additions are part of the upcoming Duel Arena version two release and follow a steady expansion of Cambria’s asset-based gameplay framework.

Cambria's Cosmetic Shards, also referred to as pink shards, are now being generated alongside Companion Shards as part of the Core NFT staking process. Both shard types are earned passively at a base rate of one per Core per day, with higher-tier NFTs benefiting from yield bonuses. This generation structure mirrors the existing system and currently remains unchanged.

Companion Shards were first introduced after the Core NFT mint in December 2024. Since then, holders have used them to mint nearly 8,000 in-game companions, which have been active during Season 2 and traded on secondary markets. Cosmetic Shards add a new layer of utility by allowing players to access cosmetic-based systems through two key mechanics: shard burning and auction participation.

Shard-Burning Rewards Pool

One of the new features linked to Cosmetic Shards is the shard-burning rewards pool. Players spend Arena Tokens, Cambria’s in-game cosmetic currency, to purchase lootbox keys. Half of all Arena Token spending on keys is allocated to a shared pool. Cosmetic Shards can be burned to claim a portion of this pool, with individual rewards calculated based on the ratio of shards burned by each player relative to the total burned during that cycle.

While wallet activity is publicly viewable, the total amount of Arena Tokens in the pool is not displayed during the cycle. This burn-to-earn model introduces a competitive element to cosmetic rewards while keeping participation open and linked to staking activity. It also provides a direct connection between in-game spending and on-chain resource utility, encouraging players to engage across multiple systems within the game’s ecosystem.

Introducing the Blind Auction System

A second use for Cosmetic Shards comes in the form of a biweekly blind auction system. In this format, players can submit bids using Cosmetic Shards for access to exclusive, limited-supply cosmetic items. Multiple bids can be made from a single wallet, and all shards used (whether or not the bid is successful) are burned. Winners are determined based on the quantity of successful bids, but all pay the lowest successful bid price.

During the auction period, public data includes the total number of bids and participating wallets. However, no real-time pricing or bid ranking information is revealed, maintaining the blind format. This approach ensures limited cosmetic items are distributed through a fair and transparent method that still preserves competitive uncertainty.

Legacy Cosmetic Catalog and Arena Token

In conjunction with the rollout of Cosmetic Shards, Cambria has formalized its collection of previously released cosmetic items. A total of 93 items have been labeled as Legacy Cosmetics and organized into four rarity tiers: LegacyCommon, LegacyUncommon, LegacyRare, and LegacyLegendary. Notable items, such as Party Hats, Golden Whips, and Rubber Chickens, are included in the highest tier, LegacyLegendary.

Cambria has also announced the discontinuation of Arena Token version one. Wallets holding at least 10,000 Arena Tokens will receive Cosmetic Shards at a conversion rate of 1,000 to 1. Additionally, the ten wallets with the highest Arena Token holdings will be awarded a Founder NFT. Remaining Arena Token balances will be factored into eligibility for future cosmetic-related rewards and events, ensuring continued relevance for legacy holders.

Core-Tier Gated Drop: The Genesis Wyvern

The Genesis Wyvern cosmetic marks the first exclusive item distributed based on Core NFT tier. It was airdropped to holders of Tier 3 or higher Core NFTs, using a snapshot taken before the v1.1 update. A total of 302 wallets qualified for the drop. The Genesis Wyvern is soulbound, meaning it cannot be traded or transferred, and is intended to highlight future use cases for Core-tier gating in item distribution.

Ongoing Development and Season 3 Outlook

There is currently no confirmed start date for Cambria Season 3. However, the team continues to expand its on-chain systems to support a dynamic, player-driven item economy. Both Companion and Cosmetic Shards now serve as foundational elements for creating in-game assets such as pets and cosmetic items. Distribution is handled through mechanisms including staking, burn-based participation, and time-limited auctions, linking supply and access directly to player engagement.
