First Light Games has officially confirmed that it will discontinue all development on Blast Royale. After exploring all options, the studio announced that the game will permanently close on June 30, 2025. The decision follows a period of internal review and reflection on the game's future. The development team acknowledged the support and enthusiasm from the community and thanked players for their ongoing patience during a time of uncertainty.
According to the team, this was not a decision made lightly. In their message to the community, they emphasized that the game has meant a great deal to them and that the creativity and passion shown by players have been the highlight of the project. Although development will cease, the team has confirmed that the game will become fully open source beginning June 1, 2025.
Blast Royale Game to End Development
As of June 1, 2025, Blast Royale will be released as open source. The complete source code will be made publicly accessible, allowing any community member or developer to use, modify, and distribute the game freely. The developers have confirmed that there will be no restrictions on how the code can be used. This move enables players and independent creators to experiment with the game and potentially guide it in new directions.
In addition to opening up the code, the original team has committed to supporting community members interested in continuing the project. They plan to provide access to the game’s developers, designers, and marketing team for those who wish to build on the existing work. This approach aims to maintain the core spirit of Blast Royale, even as the original development effort concludes.
The official Discord server will remain active and continue to serve as a space for players to connect, share ideas, and coordinate future efforts. The team described it as a “home for Blasters” and encouraged users to remain engaged in the community.

Alongside the announcement, First Light Games provided an important update regarding the $NOOB token, the ERC-20 asset used within the Blast Royale ecosystem. All in-app payments have been disabled as of the announcement. However, to ensure transparency and fairness, all remaining scheduled $NOOB tokens will be unlocked and distributed to eligible participants.
The $NOOB token will continue to be tradable on Aerodrome, and its role in the broader ecosystem remains intact. Despite the game's closure, the token will retain utility in future projects under development, such as Blast Brigades. The team has previously highlighted plans for interoperability between NFTs and tokens across multiple titles in their network, suggesting that $NOOB will continue to have relevance within future web3 gaming environments.
Blast Royale Game to End Development
Blast Royale was built around fast-paced, six-minute multiplayer battles. The game allowed players to compete in real-time matches, either solo or in teams, across Ranked and custom game modes. Events such as tournaments and live "Blastreams" gave players additional ways to engage with the game competitively. Players could earn in-game rewards, including cosmetic items like skins, emotes, and legendary characters, all of which added personalization and variety to the gameplay.
The development team has encouraged players to continue enjoying the game while servers remain online and to participate in upcoming Blastreams and explore the final content updates, including new characters introduced before the shutdown.
Blast Royale Game to End Development
Blast Royale's end of formal development reflects broader trends we are currently seeing in web3 gaming. With a number of games and studios recently announcing their discontinuation or shutdown due to lack of funding. For example, Nyan Heroes, a web3 team-based shooter built on the Solana blockchain, has announced it will cease operations following its latest playtest. While the official development of Blast Royale is coming to an end, the game’s transition to open source signals a new phase driven by the community.
First Light Games will no longer lead development, but the infrastructure and support for future community-led initiatives remain in place. Through open access to the code, continued token integration, and active community channels, players and developers alike are invited to carry forward the game's vision. More information regarding server timelines and open source access will be shared in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the team encourages players to enjoy the remaining time in-game and stay connected through Discord.
