What Is This Sorcery (WITS) is a turn-based digital trading card game (TCG)  blending strategic deck-building with fast-paced battles. Players collect cards, craft decks, and challenge opponents in duels that test both skill and adaptability. What sets it apart is the integration of physical cards with embedded chip technology, allowing real-world cards to be claimed and used in the digital version. The game is currently in Early Access, meaning it's still evolving based on player feedback. 

Game Lore 

WITS takes place in Catena, a world forever changed by the arrival of Satonako, a comet that introduced a mysterious form of magic called WAGMI. This power reshaped the land, giving rise to new magical abilities, powerful beings, and arcane conflicts. Players step into the shoes of sorcerers vying for control over these forces, using enchanted creatures, spells, and artifacts to dominate the battlefield. The story unfolds through the cards themselves, with each one representing a fragment of the game’s evolving lore. Whether casting ancient spells or summoning legendary creatures, every match is another chapter in Catena’s ongoing battle for supremacy.

Gameplay and Features

WITS follows a turn-based combat system, where players use 40-card decks to battle opponents. Each player has a hero with a set amount of health, and the goal is to bring the opponent’s hero HP to zero before they do the same. The combat system is designed with strategy in mind, rewarding players who carefully plan their moves.

Every card requires resources to play, and managing them efficiently can be the difference between victory and defeat. Knowing when to spend aggressively and when to hold back is key to mastering the game. Each hero comes with their own unique ability, which can shape a player's strategy. Choosing the right hero to fit a deck’s playstyle is just as important as the cards themselves.

WITS offers different ways to play. Single-player modes let players test their decks and learn the game’s mechanics at their own pace. Ranked multiplayer matches are where the competition heats up, allowing players to climb leaderboards and earn better rewards. Casual matches provide a space to experiment with new decks without risking rankings.

Players can earn rewards by winning matches, participating in tournaments, or through the game’s unique digital rewards system. If a player owns a digital reward version of a card, they can earn a portion of the rewards whenever another player uses that card in a competitive match. This creates an additional layer of strategy, as some players may focus on collecting high-demand cards instead of just playing competitively. 

WITS takes the TCG experience beyond just digital play. Each physical card has an embedded chip, allowing players to scan and claim them in-game. These cards can then be used in competitive online matches, traded in the marketplace, or even generate rewards when other players use their digital version.

NFTs and Web3 Integration

WITS incorporates web3 technology, allowing players to have full ownership of their digital cards. Each card is stored on the blockchain, ensuring authenticity and security while giving players complete control over their collections.

Players can buy, sell, and trade their digital cards in an open marketplace, providing more flexibility in how they build and refine their decks. This system encourages strategic collecting, as certain cards may hold more value based on their rarity and in-game utility.

Additionally, WITS introduces a rewards system where players who own digital reward versions of specific cards can earn benefits when others use those cards in ranked matches. This feature adds another layer to the game’s economy, making certain cards valuable not just for gameplay but as potential assets that generate passive rewards over time.
