Overview

OverKnights is a lighthearted PvE dungeon crawler that puts the focus on short, repeatable runs instead of long grinds or serious competition. Developed by Obitus, the game leans into arcade-style gameplay where you pick a Knight, drop into a dungeon, and try to survive the unpredictable chaos that unfolds each time. The runs are designed to be quick, usually under 15 minutes, and no two sessions feel the same thanks to randomized traps, enemies, perks, and layouts.

Despite being built by a web3 studio, OverKnights keeps its blockchain features optional. You can play the game entirely without connecting a wallet. This makes it easy for players who just want a casual dungeon brawler without worrying about NFTs or tokens. The developers are pushing to make the game enjoyable for everyone, not just the web3 crowd, and they’ve made this clear during the current Closed Alpha phase.

Gameplay and Features

OverKnights features two main gameplay modes: Anima Duels, a solo PvE roguelite mode, and Libra Tower, a ranked PvP arena system. Both are built around quick, high-stakes battles that reward adaptability, smart customization, and solid execution.

One of the core gameplay modes currently revealed is called Anima Duels. In these runs, players are dropped into dungeons where they’ll need to fight through waves of AI-controlled enemies, survive traps, and navigate rooms that may offer perks or bonuses. The objective isn’t to “win” in a traditional sense, but to survive as long as possible and reach extraction. If you make it to an extraction point, you get to keep the loot you found during that run. But if you fall before escaping, everything you’ve collected is lost. This system creates a light tension and adds stakes to each decision—whether to push forward for more loot or exit safely with what you already have.

Throughout a dungeon run, players come across perks, which act as temporary power-ups or stat boosts. These perks can affect movement, defense, and other core stats, changing how each run plays out. Since the dungeons are procedurally generated, the combination of traps, enemies, and perks shifts constantly, encouraging adaptability and on-the-fly decision-making. No two runs play the same, and outcomes rely heavily on how well you react to the chaos.

On the other side of the experience is Libra Tower, a competitive PvP mode where players face off in tactical duels using fully customized OverKnights. These battles are turn-based and strategy-heavy, taking place across different Arenas as you climb the tower ranks. To succeed, players must carefully build and adjust their OverKnight loadouts using Parts, Cards, and Components. Each piece has an impact on how your unit performs in battle, and the deck-building element gives you room to experiment with different playstyles. Whether you favor aggressive, control, or reactive strategies, there’s a lot of flexibility in how you approach a fight.

The gameplay is designed to be simple to pick up but still engaging. There are no intricate combat systems or complicated builds, OverKnights leans into arcade-style action where the fun comes from movement, survival, and short bursts of high-risk, high-reward gameplay. Because of the roguelite structure, success depends not on permanent character progression but on skill and decision-making during the run itself.

NFTs and Blockchain

OverKnights is developed by Obitus and is now partnered with Immutable to support future web3 features. However, using blockchain elements is optional. Players can access and play the core game without connecting a wallet or interacting with NFTs.

While the game is still in early development, the team has stated that certain cosmetic items or progression features may later include web3 components. These would be supported through Immutable X, but they are not currently active in the Alpha build. The overall approach puts gameplay first. Blockchain features are planned as optional additions for players who are interested, without being required to enjoy or progress in the game.

How to Get Started

Getting into OverKnights is straightforward. The game is designed to be easy to pick up, with simple controls and quick dungeon runs that don’t require a long learning curve. Whether you’re new to roguelites or just looking for something casual to play, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of things.

A free demo version of OverKnights is now available on the Epic Games Store, giving players an early look at the core gameplay. If you’re interested in the full version, you can pre-register through the official OverKnights website to stay updated on future releases and features. For those who want to explore the web3 side later on, the team has also teased possible NFT integrations through Immutable Play.
