Entertainment and gaming-focused ‘superchain’ XProtocol announced that it has joined forces with Aethir, a leading distributed cloud computing provider to make decentralized, scalable cloud gaming infrastructure accessible to millions of gamers worldwide.
Through the integration with Aethir, XProtocol, built as a Layer 3 (L3) on the Ethereum Base Layer 2 (L2), seeks to enhance the digital entertainment landscape and create a dynamic, decentralized value-driven environment for gamers and creators.

eGaming is gaining traction fast with a global market size set to reach $127 billion by 2027. With in-game asset ownership, community-driven development, and inherent transparency, web3 gaming is helping drive this growth, offering gamers more enriching experiences and opportunities to monetize their content.
Blockchain-based gaming is still in its early stages and faces some serious headwinds when it comes to mainstream adoption. Many web3 games fail to accommodate a broader user base due to high fees, high latency, and UX hurdles when integrating web3 wallets. To make matters worse, the entire eGaming industry is highly compute-intensive and relies heavily on graphics processing units (GPUs) that are mostly produced in Taiwan.
This leaves many game developers at the mercy of global supply-chain bottlenecks and rising geopolitical tensions. Global chip stocks from Nvidia to ASML recently tumbled upon U.S. Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s comments that Taiwan should pay for U.S. defense.
Powerful GPU Compute Solutions
XProtocol aims to solve these issues and enhance the entertainment and gaming landscape with a 'superchain' that combats scalability and sustainability in web3 and beyond. By leveraging Base’s scalable technology and consistently high throughput, XProtocol ensures users don’t suffer from high fees or network congestion, and makes blockchain gaming more accessible by focusing on account abstraction to seamlessly integrate web3 wallets within its games.
Beyond scalable, secure infrastructure for web3 gaming, XProtocol provides a developer-friendly platform for partnering projects offering seamless migration and easy integration through full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Set for mainnet launch in Q4 2024, XProtocol has already onboarded some of web3’s household names including Wonderverse gaming publishing studio and DestinyX entertainment and gaming portal.
Dragonix, a core contributor of XProtocol commented: “We are thrilled to partner with Aethir to integrate its distributed cloud infrastructure into the XProtocol platform. Aethir's advanced compute capabilities will enable us to realize our vision of a gaming and entertainment superchain that scales for mass adoption independent of the constraints of traditional blockchain architecture or unpredictable global macro conditions."
Highly Scalable
The latest partnership with the leading DePIN provider Aethir raises the stakes to a whole new level. Aethir offers GPUs as a service, enabling XProtocol to harness the power of underutilized GPUs from a decentralized cloud infrastructure, paving the way for a value-driven entertainment ecosystem, and overcoming critical barriers to the adoption and growth of the eGaming sector.
Daniel Wang, CEO of Aethir said: “We envision a world where decentralized web3 gaming can scale for mass adoption and be accessible to all. With our global access to secure, cost-effective enterprise-grade GPUs, XProtocol can help achieve this vision and create a win-win scenario for gamers and developers alike.”
43,000+ GPU's on demand
In summary, the partnership between XProtocol and Aethir aims to enhance the infrastructure for decentralized cloud gaming. By combining Aethir’s distributed GPU services with XProtocol’s Layer 3 (L3) solution on Ethereum’s Layer 2 (L2), the collaboration seeks to address common issues such as high transaction fees and latency.
Scheduled for a mainnet launch in Q4 2024, this effort is expected to improve the scalability and accessibility of web3 gaming, providing a more practical solution for developers and gamers alike. This partnership represents a focused approach to advancing the gaming industry’s technological capabilities.
