Playful Studios has reported a notable milestone from its latest Wildcard playtest, conducted through the Thousands streaming platform. According to CEO Paul Bettner, a single two-hour stream generated $77,928 in in-app purchases, reflecting strong audience engagement and monetization potential. Wildcard, a PC game that blends elements of sports, MOBA, and character collection into a new genre described as a Character Collection Action Game (CCAG), incorporates web3 components through its integration with Thousands.

Thousands, developed as part of Playful Studios' broader web3 strategy, serves as the foundation for community engagement around Wildcard. The platform allows spectators, fans, streamers, and content creators to earn WC tokens for participating in live events. While the WC token is currently non-redeemable for cash, it forms a key component of the game's ecosystem by incentivizing continued user involvement.
To date, Wildcard has hosted 12 live-streamed events on Thousands. Nine of these events were structured exhibition matches showcasing the game’s mechanics, while the remaining three were experimental collaborations with external partners and content creators. These streams have been instrumental in testing both gameplay and community response.

In addition to the revenue figures, Bettner shared detailed performance statistics that suggest a high level of audience engagement. The average revenue per viewer during these events was reported at $109. Furthermore, approximately 51 percent of viewers converted into paying users, an indication of strong alignment between content delivery and monetization strategy.
Retention metrics from the streams also reflect sustained interest in the game. Day 3 retention stood at 82 percent, followed by 62 percent on Day 7, 52 percent on Day 14, and 38 percent by Day 30. These figures suggest that viewers are not only engaging with Wildcard in the short term but are also returning over longer periods, a key indicator of content value and platform stickiness.

Paul Bettner, recognized in the industry for co-creating Words With Friends—acquired by Zynga for over $50 million—emphasized the significance of Wildcard’s performance in the evolving web3 gaming space. By merging traditional game formats with web3 mechanics in a way that maintains mainstream appeal, Playful Studios aims to reach both conventional gamers and crypto-native audiences. Wildcard is currently available to follow via its official website and social media channels, including its presence on X. Interested users can also wishlist the game on Steam in anticipation of its broader release.
