Team Liquid has officially announced a collaboration with Wildcard Alliance, the developers behind Wildcard, a new 2v2 player-versus-player game that combines collectible card mechanics with real-time action gameplay. The partnership brings together Team Liquid’s competitive gaming expertise and Wildcard Alliance’s vision for an accessible and engaging multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) experience.
As part of the collaboration, Team Liquid has been involved in private playtesting sessions, providing feedback and insights that are helping to shape the final version of the game. Former professional League of Legends players and current Team Liquid content creators Samson “Lourlo” Jackson and Bo Yuan “bobqin” Qin have played a key role in this process. Their input has focused on fine-tuning game balance and refining mechanics to create a smooth and competitive player experience.

Throughout development, Wildcard Alliance has conducted bi-weekly sessions with Lourlo and bobqin, leveraging their experience to strengthen elements such as skill expression and gameplay fluidity. These sessions have allowed the development team to make targeted improvements ahead of the game’s early access release planned for later this summer. The 2v2 format, designed with spectators in mind, has recently been introduced and received positively during internal tests.
Bo Kryne, vice president of product at Team Liquid, noted in an interview with GamesBeat that the organization has been enthusiastic about the project since its early phases. He stated that Wildcard has shown continued progress, and credited the Wildcard development team for its collaborative approach and passion. Kryne added that the game has steadily evolved, and that Team Liquid looks forward to supporting its broader release and public introduction.
Katy Drake Bettner, co-CEO of Wildcard Alliance, emphasized that meaningful recognition in esports depends on community reception. She explained that early interest and positive reactions from Lourlo, bobqin, and the wider Team Liquid network reinforced the team’s direction. According to Bettner, the goal is to deliver a competitive game that is entertaining for both players and spectators.

Wildcard features a blend of MOBA-style arena combat and deck-building strategy. Players take on the role of Champions who assemble decks of collectible cards, each summoning unique companion creatures with their own strengths and abilities. The objective is to outplay opponents in fast-paced arena matches by executing strategic plays, overcoming defenses, and ultimately destroying the opposing team’s goal.
The game is being developed with esports in mind, and Team Liquid’s involvement is expected to support these ambitions. Known for its success in titles such as Dota 2, League of Legends, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Team Liquid brings substantial competitive experience to the project. The organization’s feedback has informed the ongoing play-balancing process, helping to shape the game into one that could potentially find a place in the esports ecosystem.

Wildcard Alliance has been developing the game for several years and has now reached a stage where it is preparing for broader public access. The company recently announced that Wildcard has been approved for listing on Steam, marking a significant step in its web2 marketing campaign. In parallel, the development team has launched initiatives on the web3 side, including the publication of the Wildcard whitepaper—referred to as the “Wildpaper”—and the start of a $WC token airdrop campaign.
Paul Bettner, co-CEO of Wildcard Alliance, confirmed that after seven years of development and over $50 million in investment, the team is entering the next phase of onboarding more alpha testers. This process will gradually open access to several hundred new playtesters, with more added each week as the team continues bug-fixing and polish efforts ahead of the early access launch.
Wildcard Announces $WC Token Airdrop
To further promote the game, Team Liquid will release an announcement video featuring Lourlo and bobqin, and both creators plan to stream Wildcard on their individual Twitch channels. This visibility is expected to introduce the game to a wider audience and foster early community engagement.
Team Liquid, founded in 2000 in the Netherlands, remains one of the most recognized esports organizations globally. The team competes in a variety of games and has earned over $54 million in prize money from more than 7,000 tournaments. With this new collaboration, Team Liquid continues to expand its presence in emerging titles and contribute to the evolution of competitive gaming.
Wildcard Alliance, based in Texas and founded by Katy and Paul Bettner—known for their work on Words With Friends—aims to deliver a competitive and engaging experience that appeals to both traditional gamers and audiences familiar with card-based strategy games. Through its partnership with Team Liquid, the company is positioning Wildcard for both mainstream appeal and long-term success in the esports space.
