Code of Joker: Evolutions is the latest installment in the Code of Joker series, a digital trading card game first released by Sega in 2013. The game gained popularity in Japanese arcades, where it was played across more than 650 amusement facilities with over 2,760 satellite units in operation. With this latest version, the game will transition to blockchain technology, allowing players to prove digital ownership, trade, and showcase their collections through Sui’s infrastructure.
Jokers Inc. is leading this initiative, with its team consisting of former Sega producers Yasuhiro Nishiyama and Wataru Sato, known for their work on titles such as Sangokushi Taisen and Bakugan. By leveraging blockchain technology, the company aims to enhance the value of digital card games while preserving the strategic gameplay that has defined the Code of Joker series.

The decision to bring Code of Joker: Evolutions to the Sui blockchain is driven by Sui’s ability to support seamless transactions and digital ownership features. According to Takashi “Gin” Mizouka, cofounder of Jokers Inc., the goal was to create a digital experience that replicates the physical excitement of opening a new card pack. He stated in an interview with GamesBeat that Sui was the only blockchain capable of making this vision a reality.
Evan Cheng, CEO of Mysten Labs, emphasized that gaming is positioned to be a driving force in web3 adoption, and collaborations like this highlight the potential of blockchain-powered economies. Similarly, Parasol’s CEO Kai Chen highlighted Sui’s technical capabilities, noting that it provides the necessary support for game developers looking to integrate blockchain infrastructure.
The Home for Sui Builders
Code of Joker: Evolutions is set to launch on iOS, Android, and web platforms by the end of summer 2025. The release aims to attract both long-time fans of the franchise and new players interested in blockchain-enabled digital trading card games. Beyond this release, the Sui ecosystem continues to expand its support for web3 gaming. Mysten Labs is actively developing SuiPlay0X1, a hardware device designed to play both web2 and web3 games in partnership with Playtron OS.
Additionally, Sui has supported various independent gaming projects, demonstrating a commitment to fostering blockchain-based gaming experiences. Parasol, acquired by Mysten Labs in 2024, brings extensive experience in gaming hardware and software development. With a team of Japanese and American gaming experts, the company is focused on enabling game developers to integrate blockchain technology into their projects seamlessly. This partnership with Jokers Inc. and Sega is part of a broader effort to introduce more established gaming IPs to web3.
