Runes TCG has moved from Polygon to Ronin blockchain, enabling NFT minting, wallet support, and community airdrops. 1st and 2nd Edition cards introduced ahead of upcoming tournaments.
The Runes trading card game, developed by the Forgotten Runes Wizard Cult, finalized its migration from the Polygon blockchain to Ronin. The transition brings the full range of card NFTs, packs, backgrounds, and artwork into the Ronin ecosystem, signaling a new phase for the fantasy-themed digital card game.

The migration includes the complete deprecation of all Polygon-based smart contracts related to Runes. Users are now required to use the Ronin blockchain to mint cards, open packs, and make purchases using the $RON token. Wallet support has been expanded to include both Ronin and Metamask, although only the Ronin wallet enables minting and transactional gameplay. Users with assets previously on Polygon automatically received equivalent items on Ronin, sent to the same wallet address unless a new one was specified prior to the transition.
With the move to Ronin, the Runes team introduced a new Editions feature. Cards minted before the migration are now labeled as 1st Edition, while any new cards generated through Ronin will be marked as 2nd Edition. These Edition tags currently serve as metadata identifiers, but the development team has indicated they may have additional in-game functions or collector relevance in future updates.
To mark the launch on Ronin, Runes has announced promotional NFT airdrops targeting several partner communities. Eligible users from Forgotten Runiverse, Cyberkongz, Kanstar, Ronke, and Fishing Frenzy will receive limited-edition promo cards. Each community has its own eligibility requirements, which may include ownership of certain NFTs or specific token holdings. The airdrops are intended to encourage engagement across multiple web3 ecosystems and increase awareness of the Runes platform.
In addition to the migration and promotional events, the Runes team has confirmed plans to launch official tournaments. While specific details have not been provided, the introduction of competitive gameplay is expected to enhance the player experience and foster continued participation. Tournaments will likely focus on deck-building strategy, player skill, and card utility, aligning with the game’s original design as a competitive 1v1 digital trading card game.
