Sony held its latest State of Play showcase on June 5, 2025, delivering a 50-minute presentation focused on upcoming PlayStation 5 titles. The digital event served as an unofficial lead-in to the summer game announcement season and included new game reveals, fresh trailers, updates on previously announced projects, and confirmed release windows for several highly anticipated games.
PlayStation Games Revealed at State of Play
Sony’s latest State of Play stream dropped a ton of announcements, trailers, and release dates in a packed 50-minute showcase. Serving as an unofficial kickoff to the summer gaming season, the event gave players a closer look at several long-anticipated titles, surprise reveals, and a few exciting deep cuts. If you missed it live, here’s everything that went down.
One of the key announcements from the presentation was Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 tag-based fighting game developed by Arc System Works. The title features characters from the Marvel universe, including Captain America, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, and Doctor Doom. It is scheduled for release in 2026 on both PlayStation 5 and PC.
Square Enix also confirmed the return of Final Fantasy Tactics in the form of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. This version includes several enhancements such as fully voiced dialogue, an updated user interface, graphical improvements, and other quality-of-life adjustments. It also includes a version of the classic game featuring the well-known War of the Lions translation and modern convenience features like auto-save.
Enhance Games revealed Lumines Arise, the newest entry in its long-running puzzle series. Known for combining music and gameplay, the new installment is expected to follow a similar approach to Tetris Effect. Lumines Arise will launch in fall 2025 for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2.
Capcom confirmed that Pragmata, its sci-fi action game first revealed in 2020, is now targeting a 2026 release. This marks a significant update for a title that had largely disappeared from public view. Team Ninja announced Nioh 3, the next entry in its action adventure franchise. The game is expected to arrive in early 2026, and a playable demo is now available for PS5 users.
Konami shared a new trailer for Silent Hill f, confirming a release date of September 25, 2025. The company also presented new footage of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. The game will launch in August on PlayStation 5 and other platforms, with additional content teased during the presentation.
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement was introduced as a prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The game will follow a character named Leo and a group known as the Black Wolves as they explore a cursed castle. It is scheduled to release in 2026. Romeo is a Dead Man, a new title from Grasshopper Manufacture, was announced with a 2026 release window. The game appears to emphasize stylized combat and narrative-driven action.
Sea of Remnants is a new free-to-play RPG with a pirate theme. It will feature exploration, turn-based combat, and island-building elements. Tides of Tomorrow was also shown as a multiplayer story-driven game set on an oceanic planet where players collectively influence the world’s fate. The next entry in the Digimon Story series, Digimon Story Time Stranger, received a release date of October 3. Players will operate as agents of a secret organization, exploring both the human and digital worlds and engaging in turn-based battles.
Several previously announced titles received official release dates. Sword of the Sea, an artistic adventure game, will launch on August 19. Cairn, a mountain-climbing exploration game, will be released on November 5, with a demo already available. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a 2D action game drawing inspiration from classic Ninja Gaiden titles, is scheduled for release on July 31. Hirogami, a paper-folding action adventure, will arrive on September 3. Baby Steps, a walking simulator that blends physics-based movement with narrative elements, will be released on September 8.
Sony introduced Project Defiant, an officially branded fight stick designed for precision control and low-latency input. It will offer both wired and wireless connectivity and is intended for competitive play. In virtual reality news, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow was announced, marking the return of the Thief series in a new format designed for PSVR.
Sony’s June 2025 State of Play highlighted a broad spectrum of games, ranging from AAA franchises to indie experiments and virtual reality projects. With titles scheduled to release across 2025 and 2026, PlayStation continues to focus on diversifying its library. This showcase also reinforced Sony’s strategy of mixing original properties with familiar franchises, providing content for a wide range of player preferences.
