Proof of Play, the developer behind the fully on-chain RPG Pirate Nation, has announced a new limited-time PvE event titled Deadman’s Heart. This event, which runs from May 13 to May 27, introduces a competitive structure built around a 1 million $PIRATE token prize pool. Set within the Arbitrum-powered blockchain game, the event encourages players to complete quests, collect event-specific currency, and climb the leaderboard to earn in-game and token-based rewards.

The narrative for the event revolves around Pirate Queen Laura Highmark, whose story adds a lore-based dimension to the gameplay. According to the event’s backstory, Laura fell in love with a naval officer, only for the relationship to end in tragedy when he was murdered. In her grief and anger, the Pirate Queen lost faith in piracy after her crew presented her with her lover’s heart before discarding his body into the sea.

This betrayal transformed Laura into the Banshee, a ghostly figure who now roams the Infinite Isles, seeking vengeance and destruction. The Banshee wears the lover’s heart as a pendant, symbolizing her grief and wrath. Players are tasked with halting her rampage through the game’s world, which requires completing a series of quests and battles tied to the event.

14 Day Event, World Quests, and Prizes

During the 14-day event, players can take part in World Quests designed to reward Black Roses. These items are central to the event, acting as the currency required to initiate battles against the Banshee. Quests often involve finding and defeating Sea Spectres, with each completed challenge yielding more Black Roses.

Players can challenge the Banshee across three difficulty levels: Normal, Expert, and Extreme. Each level offers increased rewards and presents a more challenging battle. Successfully defeating the Banshee provides players with Heart Pendants. These pendants are used to determine a player’s ranking on the event’s leaderboard. Those who collect the most pendants will have the opportunity to claim a share of the 1 million $PIRATE prize pool, along with other rare in-game items such as Gems, PGLD, upgrade plans, and shards.

Leaderboard Rewards and Eligibility

The top 1000 players on the leaderboard at the end of the event will be eligible for a range of rewards. However, ranking alone is not sufficient. To claim prizes, players must either hold a Founder’s Pirate NFT or have an active VIP Pass when the event ends. This requirement ensures that only invested players receive the benefits of top placement.

Founder’s Pirate NFTs can be purchased via the Proof of Play Marketplace, which aggregates listings from OpenSea on the Ethereum network. At the time of writing, the floor price for these NFTs is 0.29 ETH. Alternatively, players can opt for a VIP Pass, available through the in-game shop. The VIP Pass is offered in one-month, three-month, and twelve-month durations, priced at 220, 600, and 2160 $PIRATE tokens respectively.

Future Game Development and Web3 Integration

Deadman’s Heart also introduces a new Building Upgrade Plan system, setting the stage for more complex in-game mechanics. Players who finish in the top 25 will be able to choose between receiving a Complex Building or Ship Upgrade Plan or Shard. This new upgrade tier is being rolled out in preparation for an upcoming Crafting system expansion scheduled for later this summer.

Pirate Nation continues to position itself as a browser-based, free-to-play RPG that integrates web3 technology with accessible gameplay. Players can join by using a crypto wallet or logging in via platforms such as Google or Discord. The game’s web3 infrastructure is built on Arbitrum, which recently allocated $10 million to support blockchain gaming studios, including Proof of Play.
