Neon Machine, the developer of the web3 first-person shooter Shrapnel, has announced the settlement of a lawsuit filed by former investors in 2023. The company stated that the settlement agreement is expected to be submitted for court approval in due course. Legal Dispute Resolved

The legal dispute arose due to a disagreement between former CEO Mark Long and the company’s investors. While the investors had initially funded Neon Machine to develop Shrapnel, Long later raised additional capital through a token sale. The investors argued that they did not receive what they considered to be a fair share of the company as a result. The lawsuit has now been settled, and Long has since left the company. In a statement to GamesBeat, he commented, “We’re all glad it’s over so the studio can focus 100% on the game.”

Shrapnel Prepares for 2025 Launch

With the legal matters behind them, the Shrapnel development team is moving ahead with its plans for the game. The free-to-play first-person shooter is set to launch on the Epic Games Store in 2025. The game aims to provide an engaging experience that allows players to compete, create, and influence its evolving world. Shrapnel’s CEO, Ken Rosman, acknowledged the support from the community and reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering a high-quality experience.

Ken emphasized that every decision made is centered on creating an engaging and well-developed game for players. In preparation for launch, the Shrapnel team has hosted multiple early access gameplay events throughout 2024, with more scheduled before its full release. The game has already attracted over 130,000 player accounts and built a following of more than half a million on social media.

Web3 First-Person Shooter

Shrapnel incorporates blockchain technology, utilizing its own Layer-1 token on the Avalanche network. This integration is designed to give players greater ownership over in-game assets, fostering a player-driven economy within the game’s ecosystem. Set in a dystopian future, Shrapnel takes place after a massive asteroid impact on the moon causes meteorites to bombard Earth.

The affected regions, known as the Sacrifice Zone, become battlegrounds where mercenary forces fight to extract a mysterious material called Sigma. Nations and corporations compete for control, driving the game’s central conflict. As the company shifts its focus fully toward launch, Shrapnel continues to refine its gameplay, expand its community, and prepare for a successful entry into the gaming market in 2025.
