About FIFA Rivals

FIFA and Mythical Games unveiled their latest collaboration, FIFA Rivals, a new mobile game set to expand FIFA’s presence in the gaming and esports industry. The announcement was made during our prestigious GAM3 Awards 2024, held on November 22nd in Manila. FIFA Rivals is being developed by Bacon Games, a Colombia-based studio with a team of nearly 40 developers. The studio was founded by Jairo Nieto and Alejandro González, who previously launched Brainz, the developer behind World War Doh, a title later acquired by U.S. publisher Jam City in 2018.

The development team is currently focused on refining the game in preparation for its upcoming release. The first time  One of the major challenges faced by the developers has been creating a game that is both globally accessible and technically adaptable to a wide variety of devices and operating systems. Speaking to Forbes, Nieto noted that managing the scale of the project requires a step-by-step approach. He emphasized the need to stay focused and avoid becoming overwhelmed by the ambition of building a game for a worldwide audience.

Integration of Web3 Elements and Fantasy Gameplay

While specific information on the web3 features of FIFA Rivals has not yet been disclosed, it is expected to incorporate similar elements to NFL Rivals, another mobile sports title by Mythical Games. In NFL Rivals, players can own and trade in-game assets, such as licensed athletes, using the Mythos blockchain.

Although the core gameplay of FIFA Rivals will differ, it is likely that digital ownership and trading elements will be part of the experience. The game will also introduce fantasy-based gameplay mechanics, setting it apart from traditional sports simulation titles. This approach aims to blend real-world football elements with creative gameplay features to appeal to both casual and competitive players.

Future Plans and Esports Integration

Mythical Games CEO John Linden has indicated that FIFA Rivals will include officially licensed football players from both past and present, as well as partnerships with prominent clubs around the world. The company plans to integrate the game into the FIFA esports platform, providing players in various countries the opportunity to participate or engage as fans within a structured competitive environment.

Linden stated that the goal is to expand the reach of sports gaming through a combination of licensed content and accessible competitive play. This aligns with broader industry trends that emphasize community engagement and cross-platform participation.
