The team behind My Neighbor Alice (MNA) recently announced the postponement of Alpha Season 3 following performance issues discovered shortly after the season's launch on June 27. The season introduced a crafting feature that led to the creation of an unexpected amount of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), causing transaction delays and compromising the gaming experience.
Alpha Season 3 saw the debut of a crafting feature that allowed players to gather resources from activities like fishing and farming to create customizable NFTs. The new feature witnessed a robust response from players, leading to the creation of more than 100,000 NFTs.
However, issues began emerging on June 29 when players started experiencing longer delays when submitting transactions. The team decided to put the game into maintenance mode on July 3 to investigate the situation. Working with their partners at ChromaWay, the MNA team found that the large number of NFTs created was causing performance degradation.
In a statement, the MNA team said, "We believe that our alpha seasons are an opportunity for us to test the game together with the community, and we want to ensure that we provide the best possible experience for our players. Therefore, we have made the decision to restart the season at the end of August once we have properly addressed the issues."
They assured players that while the problem was relatively straightforward to solve in code, it proved more challenging to rectify during a live season. The team emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality gaming experience and assured that this delay will help provide a better and smoother game.
On the upside, the team announced the successful introduction of the decentralized Chromia token bridge for the $ALICE token. They also assured players who had deposited their $ALICE tokens that they could safely withdraw them or choose to migrate them to the new season.
Players with deposited NFTs were also informed that they could leave them as they were, as they will be safely moved over, similar to how they were moved from Season 2 to Season 3.
The MNA team thanked their community for their understanding and patience and eagerly anticipate their return to the game in August, promising a stronger and better My Neighbor Alice.
