Mobile RPG Fableborne Moves to Ronin Blockchain

Pixion Games, a UK-based mobile game developer, has announced the migration of its action RPG Fableborne from Avalanche to the Ronin blockchain. This move positions Fableborne among the latest titles on Ronin, a blockchain network managed by Sky Mavis, best known for hosting blockchain-based games with a strong player base in Southeast Asia and Latin America. This migration is part of Sky Mavis’ broader initiative to diversify its gaming offerings and expand its appeal to new markets.

About Fableborne

Fableborne, currently in development since 2021, features a unique combination of hack-and-slash RPG mechanics with base-building and raid elements. The game allows players to engage in both player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) battles, creating an immersive experience that blends competitive and strategic elements. Originally launched on Avalanche, the game underwent a cosmetic rebranding in May 2024, introducing visual updates that further refined its identity as an esports-influenced, mobile-first RPG.

Pixion Games’ founder and CEO, Kam Punia, emphasized the importance of partnering with Ronin, citing the platform’s commitment to mobile-first design and its engaged community as primary factors. He expressed confidence that Ronin’s resources and community-centered approach will support Fableborne’s expansion into the web3 space.

“After years of building in web3, we see Ronin as the perfect partner to realize this vision,” Punia said, adding that Ronin’s “resilient and deeply engaged community” is an ideal fit for Fableborne’s strategic and competitive gameplay.

Aligning with Sky Mavis’ Expansion Strategy

Sky Mavis’ CEO, Trung Nguyen, highlighted Fableborne as a valuable addition to the Ronin ecosystem, citing its appeal to a different demographic of players compared to the network’s current offerings. The platform is widely recognized for popular titles such as Pixels, a social RPG that currently boasts the highest number of daily active players on Ronin, and Wild Forest by Zillion Whales, which recorded over 150,000 daily active wallets in October 2024.

Nguyen praised Fableborne’s unique blend of gameplay elements, noting that its “hack-and-slash RPG action, similar to Diablo, combined with base-building defense mechanics, like Clash of Clans, is a fresh addition that will resonate with both existing and new players.” This alignment with diverse game mechanics and genres supports Sky Mavis’ aim of fostering a more varied and inclusive gaming landscape on Ronin, attracting audiences outside of its typical Southeast Asian and LATAM base.

Addressing Free-to-Play Challenges

Pixion Games’ move also reflects a broader trend of web3 game developers seeking solutions to long-standing issues in the free-to-play (F2P) mobile model, which has dominated mobile gaming but often lacks incentives for players to engage with games beyond initial phases. Punia highlighted that web3 integration offers potential solutions to these challenges, allowing for player ownership, enhanced reward systems, and economic structures that bring value to both players and developers.

Sky Mavis has gained traction with similar mobile-first, web3 initiatives, which include token-based reward systems, pre-launch campaigns, and airdrops. The Ronin platform has strategically supported game developers who are interested in creating long-term value in mobile gaming. The addition of Fableborne aligns with Ronin’s ongoing push to establish itself as a leading network for web3 gaming by onboarding third-party developers who bring innovative mobile game formats and play styles.

Final Thoughts

By migrating Fableborne to Ronin, Pixion Games is setting the stage for potential growth within a community that has demonstrated strong engagement and resilience. For Sky Mavis, the integration of Fableborne represents an expansion of its diverse game catalog, reinforcing its aim to establish Ronin as a primary hub for web3 gaming. Both companies are aligned in their goal to address challenges in the F2P mobile model, hoping to bring meaningful innovation to mobile gaming through blockchain integration.
