Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, the once Xbox console exclusive, is officially making its way to PlayStation 5 (PS5) later this summer. Microsoft announced that the game will launch on Sony’s console in an Enhanced Edition, complete with new features and full support for the PS5 Pro.
There’s no specific release date just yet, and Ninja Theory hasn’t outlined exactly what the Enhanced Edition will include. However, the developer confirmed via social media that these new features will also be rolled out as a free update for players on other platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Hellblade 2 Is Coming to PlayStation 5
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is a 2024 action-adventure game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game serves as the sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and is set in 9th century Iceland, drawing inspiration from Norse mythology and culture.
In the announcement video, shared on the anniversary of Hellblade 2’s original Xbox and PC launch, Ninja Theory stated the team has been focused on optimizing the experience for both PS5 and PS5 Pro users. According to the studio, the goal is to deliver “the very best experience” possible on Sony’s hardware. Details on what these improvements entail—whether visual upgrades, performance enhancements, or gameplay additions—are still under wraps, but more information is expected soon.
Hellblade 2’s PS5 debut continues Microsoft’s recent trend of bringing its first-party games to more platforms. The move follows other Xbox titles making the leap to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, as the company shifts toward a more inclusive release strategy.
It’s a notable change in direction for the franchise. The original Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice launched in 2017 as a timed PlayStation exclusive. Microsoft later acquired Ninja Theory in 2018, bringing the studio under the Xbox Game Studios banner. Now, seven years after its original debut, the series is returning to PlayStation—this time under very different circumstances.
Hellblade 2 Is Coming to PlayStation 5
With recent U.S. sales data showing strong results from Microsoft’s multiplatform releases, it’s clear the strategy is gaining traction. Bringing Hellblade 2 to PS5 may help the game reach a wider audience while reinforcing Microsoft’s evolving vision of Xbox as an ecosystem, not just a console.
For now, fans on PlayStation can look forward to exploring Senua’s journey for the first time in the sequel, with performance and visual improvements promised for PS5 and PS5 Pro hardware. More updates are expected in the coming weeks as the summer launch window approaches.
