Football.Fun raises $2 million to build a browser-based web3 fantasy football game with fractional player shares, real-time trading, and skill-based rewards. FDF Pro launches in August 2025.

Football.Fun, a browser-based fantasy football game built using web3 technology, has raised $2 million in a new funding round led by 6th Man Ventures. The round also included participation from Devmons, Sfermion, The Operating Group, and Zee Prime Capital. The funding will go toward the development and launch of the game’s full version, FDF Pro, which is scheduled for release in August 2025.

A Different Approach to Fantasy Football

Football.Fun combines elements of fantasy football with real-time trading mechanics. Users create digital squads made up of real football players and earn in-game rewards based on how those players perform in actual matches.

The game runs entirely in a web browser, with no download required, and is designed to be both accessible and low-cost. One of its key features is fractional player ownership, which allows users to buy small shares of players instead of entire NFTs. These shares generate gold, the in-game currency, depending on each player’s real-life performance.

New users receive 1,000 gold and three player packs when they sign up. Each pack contains four players with different share amounts. The value of a pack depends on the players inside and the number of shares included.

The game operates on a live market using pool-based liquidity, meaning prices are updated automatically and trades happen instantly. A 5% fee is charged on all transactions, which helps maintain a balanced in-game economy and encourages longer-term strategy rather than quick flipping.

Tournaments, Reward, and More

Football.Fun hosts two tournaments each week. One takes place from Friday to Monday and the other from Tuesday to Thursday. Players who appear in real-world matches are automatically entered into tournaments, as long as they have at least one contract remaining. Users don’t need to set lineups manually. Instead, rewards are distributed to those who hold shares in top-performing players based on position groups.

Goalkeepers have three reward slots, while other positions have five. The size of a user’s reward depends on how many shares they hold compared to the total number of active shares for that player. For example, owning 500 of 1,000 total shares in a high-performing player would earn the user 50% of that player’s reward.

Team-Based Earning Opportunities

In addition to individual player rewards, the platform includes a team rewards system. Nineteen percent of the total prize pool is set aside for the top ten teams, provided each team has at least ten members. Rewards are scaled by rank, with the top team receiving 22% of the pool and the tenth team receiving 1%. This gives users another way to earn through group participation and adds an extra layer of strategy to the game.

Every player comes with four match-use contracts. A contract is only used when the player appears in a real match. If all contracts are used, the player cannot earn rewards until new contracts are added. Users can renew contracts either by purchasing more shares or by using the management tools available in the squad tab. This adds a tactical element to gameplay, as users must consider player consistency and squad depth when managing their team.

Custom Artwork and Motty System

The game runs directly in a browser and supports both email and crypto wallet logins. Supported wallets include MetaMask, WalletConnect, Rainbow, and Coinbase Wallet. To reduce costs and improve accessibility, Football.Fun does not use official player images or licenses. Instead, it uses custom artwork and an automated share distribution system called “Motty,” which adjusts share issuance based on player demand. This helps control inflation and maintain balance in the in-game market.

Before pausing operations for the football off-season, Football.Fun ran a beta phase called “Gold Rush,” where players could earn digital items, gold, and physical merchandise based on performance. These beta events have now ended. Trading and pack opening are currently disabled while the platform prepares for its on-chain rollout. According to team updates, these features will resume as the football season returns and the launch of FDF Pro approaches in August 2025.

Looking Ahead to the FDF Pro Launch

Unlike many other web3 games, Football.Fun is not based solely on how much a user spends. While owning more shares can increase potential earnings, the game’s reward system is designed to favor smart decision-making and timely investments. Identifying undervalued or overlooked players early can lead to higher payouts, especially when fewer users are competing for the same rewards. This structure makes gameplay more strategic and less dependent on large financial commitments.

With $2 million in new funding and a target launch window of August 2025, Football.Fun is positioning itself as a unique entry in the web3 fantasy sports space. Its focus on fractional ownership, browser accessibility, and skill-based rewards sets it apart from traditional NFT-driven games. Backed by experienced investors and supported by a growing community, the platform is expected to roll out new features in the coming months as development of FDF Pro continues.
