The playtest is open from April 9th at 10 AM UTC through April 16th at 10 AM UTC. During this period, players can explore the game world, complete quests, and clear dungeons to accumulate points and rise through the leaderboard rankings. Calamity is a free-to-play sandbox MMORPG set in a colorful 2D top-down world. Drawing inspiration from classic games like World of Warcraft, Lineage, Diablo, and Albion Online, Calamity offers an engaging experience where players can explore challenging dungeons, face off against other players, and develop their characters with a variety of classes, skills, and gear. The game focuses on a player-driven economy, moving away from traditional microtransactions and pay-to-win models, and instead, rewards players for their in-game achievements.

The Calamity Incentivized Playtest functions as an open beta test designed to gather feedback from participants while encouraging competitive gameplay. As part of the reward structure, the top 100 players on the leaderboard will be eligible to receive a portion of the prize pool. Each qualifying player will also receive cosmetic rewards, such as the Ice King Crown, and those who accumulate more than 10,000 Valor points will additionally earn the Circle of Flame item.

Included in the rewards are Mystery Assets, which are web3-based NFT items. These digital assets are said to have a projected value of $100 each. Although they will not be immediately distributed, they are expected to be claimable at a later date during a Public Sale. The specific timing of the sale has not yet been disclosed by the developers. Relic Skins, which are part of an upcoming cosmetic NFT collection, will also be granted at a later time following a chain migration.

Beyond competitive gameplay, Calamity is also offering a reward opportunity for content creators. Individuals who publish content on platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, X, or other social media channels may be selected to receive additional Mystery Assets. The team will choose 25 content creators to receive two Mystery Assets each, based on the quality of the content and audience engagement. Furthermore, five participants who create detailed game guides in any language will be awarded three Mystery Assets each. All content submissions must be posted in the official Discord’s #creative channel by April 21st, with winners set to be announced on April 28th.

Reporting Bugs and Providing Feedback 

To participate in the playtest, users can either download the game through the Epic Games Store or access a direct download link provided on the official Discord server. While both platforms support Windows and Mac systems, players choosing the direct download option must manually update the game by downloading the latest version each time an update is released. A new login system has been introduced for this event, requiring players to register a new account.

After logging in, players can begin completing quests and entering dungeons to earn Valor points, which determine leaderboard placement. The game features a pixel-style city where players can press the “M” key to view NPCs and locate quest-givers. To initiate dungeon runs, players can visit the Dungeon NPC located near the portal in the city center. After completing a dungeon, quest points can be claimed in the Quests tab.

Leaderboard progress can be monitored via the Valor Leaderboard, accessible through the Dungeon NPC interface. Participants are encouraged to report bugs and provide gameplay feedback through the appropriate channels in the Discord server. This feedback will assist developers in preparing future updates, including an upcoming play-to-airdrop event.
