Game technology provider Beamable has announced a new partnership with Upheaval Games, the studio behind the AI-powered Dreamer platform. The collaboration is focused on simplifying and accelerating the process of game development by combining generative artificial intelligence tools with a reliable backend infrastructure. This initiative aims to make it easier for developers to create, test, and launch dynamic content using AI while managing the technical aspects of game operations at scale.
The integration of Beamable’s backend services with Upheaval’s AI platform creates an end-to-end solution for modern game development. Developers can now use Dreamer to design game elements and experiences, and rely on Beamable to deliver those experiences efficiently to players worldwide. This partnership reflects a shared goal of supporting evolving game development workflows and increasing the responsiveness of live game environments.
Beamable To Simplify AI-driven Game Development
Dreamer, developed by Upheaval Games, is a browser-based platform that helps developers create game content using natural language. Through simple text descriptions, users can generate scenes, environments, characters, and interactive elements. One of the key features of the platform is the implementation of "Digital Beings" — AI-driven characters that possess memory, preferences, and adaptive behaviors based on player interactions. These characters allow for a more personalized gameplay experience that evolves in real time.
The Dreamer platform is designed to reduce the time and effort traditionally required to build complex game worlds. By using generative AI, creators can focus on storytelling, design, and player experience without needing to manage the underlying systems that support these features. The goal is to reduce friction in the creative process and make AI-assisted game development more accessible to a broad range of developers.
Beamable To Simplify AI-driven Game Development
Beamable supports Dreamer by providing backend infrastructure that manages essential live services, including player accounts, leaderboards, in-game commerce, real-time data, and live events. With this backend integration, content generated in Dreamer can be published and updated quickly, without requiring extensive technical support.
The company has evolved significantly since its founding in 2010. Originally operating as Disruptor Beam, the studio gained recognition for games like Game of Thrones Ascent and Star Trek Timelines. In 2020, it rebranded as Beamable and shifted its focus to the backend tools developed internally to support those games. Today, Beamable’s tools are used by developers working with Unity and Unreal Engine to support multiplayer experiences and ongoing live service operations.
In early 2025, Beamable launched the Beamable Foundation to further support open tools and the development of a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) tailored to gaming. This move reflects Beamable’s commitment to enabling flexible, scalable game technology solutions aligned with the evolving needs of the gaming industry, including web3-related infrastructure.
Beamable To Simplify AI-driven Game Development
Both Beamable and Upheaval Games emphasize accessibility and flexibility in their tools, aiming to support independent developers as well as large studios. With this integration, solo developers and small teams can create and publish interactive, AI-driven content without needing expertise in server infrastructure. For larger studios, the combined platform offers scalable support for real-time updates and live experiences.
By removing technical barriers, the partnership allows creators to test and iterate content more rapidly. This helps meet the growing expectations of players for games that adapt, change, and evolve over time. Whether the goal is to deliver frequent updates or build more immersive experiences, the joint platform is designed to simplify that process.
Upheaval Games was founded in 2024 by a team of developers with backgrounds at companies such as Blizzard, Tencent, Unity, and Obsidian. Based in Delaware, the studio is focused on using artificial intelligence to make game development faster and more intuitive. Their tool, Synthia, allows users to create 3D assets and environments using text or voice input.
In April 2025, Upheaval expanded access to these tools with the launch of the Dreamer Portal, a free web app aimed at helping more creators explore AI-assisted content development. The platform supports the creation of not just static assets but also dynamic, responsive characters and gameplay elements. This approach aligns with the industry’s move toward more interactive and personalized game environments.
Beamable To Simplify AI-driven Game Development
The partnership between Beamable and Upheaval Games represents a significant step forward in making AI-assisted game development more practical and scalable. It brings together two complementary technologies: Dreamer’s ability to generate creative content and Beamable’s backend systems that manage the operational side of live games.
Together, the companies aim to reduce the time and complexity involved in building, launching, and updating games. Developers can focus more on creativity and player engagement, while technical operations are handled through integrated infrastructure. This approach supports the growing demand for dynamic, player-driven game experiences and reflects a broader shift toward more efficient development practices across the industry.
