Maelstrom is an online multiplayer naval combat game set in a dark, stormy world where players command powerful warships in intense battles across the Abyssal Ocean. Gameplay and Features
Maelstrom revolves around naval combat, where controlling your ship and using its weapons effectively is essential to winning the game. Combat requires precise aiming and timing, as cannonballs follow a realistic arc, making positioning and predicting enemy moves crucial. Players can also customize their ships by upgrading weapons, armor, and crew, allowing for strategic adjustments that impact performance in battle.

Maelstrom features both team-based and free-for-all multiplayer modes, allowing you to battle up to 16 players at once. In addition to multiplayer modes, Maelstrom also offers PvE content, where you can face off against AI to hone your skills, complete missions, and unlock ship upgrades. However, the real challenge lies in PvP, where you’ll test your mettle against other players for control of the seas.

Maelstrom now offers optional Web3 features through its partnership with Uprising Labs and the Somnia blockchain. Players can buy, trade, and upgrade digital ship-assets such as hull skins, sails, and figureheads via Somnia’s marketplace.
Latest Updates (2025)
In early 2025 Maelstrom made its major pivot into Web3 by launching asset-ownership support via the Somnia blockchain and partnering with Uprising Labs for unified ecosystem publishing. This update introduced ship cosmetics and loot drops registered on-chain while preserving all the fast-paced naval combat that existing players loved. By mid-2025, cross-play across PC and platforms remained intact, and new event modes linked to on-chain rewards started rolling out, bringing a hybrid of competitive multiplayer and optional blockchain features into the game’s loop.
