In Engines of Fury, Earth has fallen into chaos after a cataclysmic impact. The surface is crawling with mutated threats, and survival depends on what you can scavenge and bring back. You’ll enter procedurally generated zones, search for loot, and fight your way out before it’s too late. Between runs, you’ll upgrade your gear, expand your hideout, and shape your character with a classless skill system based on what you find in the wild.
Engines of Fury is a top-down extraction shooter that puts players in a grim post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by mutants and scattered survivors. You’ll scavenge through hostile environments, build your loadout from scraps, and push your luck with every raid. Death means dropping your gear, but if you make it out, the rewards let you craft better tools, expand your hideout, and level up your character. It mixes elements from RPGs, survival games, and shooters into a tense loop where each decision matters.
The backdrop spans light-years, starting on Trappist-1e. A peaceful alien species, the Medusala, found themselves under attack by The Usurpers, a technologically advanced race bent on expansion. War broke out. The Medusala adapted to survive and eventually won, but not without becoming something darker.
Fearing another Usurper rise, they began a campaign to wipe out seeded DNA across the universe. Earth was among the targets. An asteroid slammed into the planet in the 1990s, carrying mutagenic organisms that twisted humans, animals, and ecosystems into terrifying forms. Society crumbled. What’s left of humanity took shelter underground.
Soon, humans discovered the presence of ancient machinery called The Engines, left behind by The Usurpers. These devices allow humans to manipulate Medusal DNA, unlocking power but also drawing them deeper into the chaos. The surface remains dangerous, but some survivors are willing to risk it all.
Engines of Fury is built around high-risk, high-reward gameplay. You enter raids with your gear, explore hostile zones, and try to leave alive. If you die, you drop what you found and risk losing equipped items too.
The core loop revolves around scavenging procedurally generated maps, where materials, weapons, and armor are scattered in dangerous environments filled with mutant creatures and environmental hazards. Every raid is a gamble. Success means bringing back loot to craft or upgrade your gear, while failure means starting over with whatever you kept safe in your stash.
Character progression steps away from traditional experience points. Instead, you’ll collect Medusal Cells during raids and inject them at the Surgery Table in your hideout. These unlock new skills in a flexible, classless skill tree. You build your own path, adjusting your playstyle with every successful extraction.
Exiting a raid isn’t as easy as running to the door. You can either find fixed extraction points scattered across the map or use a single-use gadget to call for pickup. Both choices come with risks. Activating either will send a signal that could draw enemies and players to your location.
It’s not just monsters you’ll be watching out for. Other players are also scavenging the same maps, and you won’t always know if someone is an ally or planning to loot your body. Surprise encounters can flip a raid’s outcome fast, adding a layer of tension to every move you make.
You don’t have to go it alone. Form a squad of up to four players and head into special raid variants that offer bigger challenges and better loot. Teamwork becomes essential, as these zones are less forgiving. There’s no friendly fire, but how you share rewards is entirely up to your group.
Gear doesn’t magically appear. You’ll use the scrap and materials gathered during raids to build weapons, armor, and consumables back at your hideout. Crafting takes real time, but you can reduce that through station upgrades or by burning in-game currency. Higher tier recipes unlock more powerful options.
This is more than a menu screen. Your hideout acts as your personal base, starting out as a bare-bones bunker. Over time, you can expand it with new modules, decorations, and utility structures. It’s where you craft gear, prep for raids, and showcase your achievements in a world trying to erase you.
