<p>Blocklords aims to spearhead the strategy genre in web3 gaming and bring everything players know and love from successful franchises like Age of Empires,&nbsp;Total War, and Crusader Kings.</p>
<p>In Blocklords, each choice and action impacts a player’s in-game legacy, effectively empowering players to create their own unique shared experiences with others. Each Hero character is a digital asset, and players have full ownership of the game’s economy.</p>
<p>Depending on the path you take, you can become a contributing and active member in the game's ecosystem. Whether you lean more towards&nbsp;farming and resource management or brute forcing your way into glory by fighting your foes, your decisions and skills will impact the world around you.</p>
<h2>Path to the Crown</h2>
<p>Everyone in Blocklords starts off as a simple farmer. Your Hero NFT is what represents you in-game, and your actions can take you on whichever path you choose. Once you gather up enough resources as a farmer, it is your call to either transition into being a&nbsp;<b>Knight </b>or <b>Raider </b>or continue being a farmer and build your name amongst the core backbone of society.</p>

<p>If you decide to become a Knight or Raider, you need to choose the one most suitable to your personality. Knights are more loyal fighters, pledging your allegiance to a Lord in exchange for a more stable salary. As a Knight, your duty is simple: Defend Farmers and villages, and kill any Raider you encounter.</p>
<p>On the other hand, Raiders are the rogue warriors of Blocklords. You are a lone wolf and answer to no one. You will make your living attacking innocent Farmers, stealing resources from Lords, and wreak havoc in villages.</p>
<p>Understandably, Raiders have very low chances, if any, of progressing further up the ranks. Once you have made a name for yourself and everyone respects you, you can get your first taste of the ruling class, <b>Lords </b>and <b>Ladies.</b></p>
<p>Among their tasks, Lords are responsible for collecting taxes and resources from Farmers, offering rewards and salaries to Knights, as well as managing and developing cities and infrastructure.</p>

<p>By utilizing your skills and conquering the path before you effectively, players may have the opportunity to rise to the ultimate rank of <b>King </b>or <b>Queen</b>. Once you are sitting on the throne, it’s your duty to determine the priorities of your kingdom. Rulers govern nations, which are the largest territory type in Blocklords. </p>
<p>Their role includes managing currency, national policies, diplomacy, trade agreements, and research available to their armies and regions. They may also choose to start or engage in realm-altering wars on a national scale.</p>
<h2>Life in the Kingdom</h2>
<p>Blocklords’ gameplay is built around giving our players the agency to make their own decisions and shape their own stories. Whether you decide to live a fulfilling life on a farm or create a grand strategy to rise to the throne, the path and ultimate fate of your Hero is directly determined by your in-game choices.</p>

<p>The game revolves around four core mechanisms, explained in the section below.</p>
<h4>Farm, Fight, Rule, and Conquer</h4>
<ul><li><b>Farm:</b>&nbsp;Farmers are the core of any economic structure and Blocklords is no different. Players who start off the game without a character NFT will be assigned the Farmer role. You get to gather, mine, process, and craft various materials to refine into useable currency.&nbsp;The role’s activities cover a wider variety of actions as well, allowing players to manage animals and livestock. All of these resources can be traded on the marketplace to keep everyone in business.</li></ul>
<ul><li><b>Fight:&nbsp;</b>Players who save up enough resources and no longer want to be a Farmer may choose to leave their farm behind in favor of building an army. From there, two more paths will open for you to choose from: Knight or Raider.</li></ul>
<ul><li><b>Rule</b>:&nbsp;Players who make successful and effective decisions in Blocklords and rise through the ranks may have the opportunity to claim a ruling role. The first type of ruling role, Lords and Ladies, carry their own unique functions and responsibilities.</li></ul>

<h2>GameDrop Campaign</h2>
<p>Blocklords recently launched its GameDrop campaigns in early 2024, creating exciting opportunities for both active players and asset holders to be rewarded with $LRDS tokens for their participation in the community. These GameDrops come in seasons, with several more planned throughout the year. Each GameDrop aims to introduce new features and bring the community closer to the $LRDS Token Generation Event (TGE). The rewards for participating in these GameDrops are outlined in a detailed <a href="https://wiki.blocklords.com/economy/currencies/usdlrds/gamedrop-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">rewards table</a>. For now, $LRDS tokens are exclusively available through these GameDrops and in-game activities, with plans for wider accessibility following the TGE.<b><br></b></p>

<h2>Overview</h2>

<p>Blocklords is a grand strategy game set in the medieval era, offering a multitude of player roles ranging from a humble farmer to the ruler of all lands. But what exactly is the nature of this game?</p>
<p>Think of Blocklords as a fusion of Banished and Life is Feudal: Village, with elements borrowed from Mount and Blade: Bannerlord. The latter, in particular, could provide a beacon of inspiration as the game evolves.</p>
<p>In every review I conduct, it's important to understand that none of the games are in their finalized form. This is particularly true for Blocklords, which presently is confined to the smallest corner of the intended scope for the complete game. This is the third alpha version I've tested, and it's amazing to witness the considerable strides it has taken in such a limited time and iterations. I'm pointing this out because the proposed full scope for the game is enormous.</p>

<h2>Gameplay</h2>
<p>Currently, the game presents an immersive story-style tutorial that efficiently imparts the controls pertaining to the farming/village simulation aspect of the game. A minor gripe I have with this is the fluctuating tone of the guide, alternating between being immersed in the game world and breaking the fourth wall by acknowledging its video game nature. This is more of a nitpick than a gameplay issue. </p>
<p>The tutorial effectively introduces different squads needed for resource acquisition, all the accessible buildings, their usages, and outputs. After this stage and during it, it's up to you to ensure effective resource balancing and collection. This is what we might refer to as the primary loop of the game in its current form, striving to maintain a successful village economy, a task not as straightforward as it sounds.</p>

<p>A recent update introduced random events that can affect your squads. While these don't directly enhance gameplay, they certainly amplify immersion and propel the ongoing narrative of your villagers as you ponder the choice that best serves your economy or the people. Although these events are currently scarce, I anticipate a substantial expansion in future builds to offer significant benefits or disruptions based on your decisions.</p>
<p>Beyond your village, you can visit the city to trade your goods and commodities, thereby helping maintain equilibrium in your village. Alongside, you get the opportunity to pick a land that suits your needs. If the land already has a ruler, you will need to outperform that leader to seize control. If the land is tax-free, it could be your chance to generate as much income as quickly as possible. All these decisions rest with you, the player.</p>

<p>One feature that's conspicuously absent in these early builds is a threat. Currently, there's no danger, whether it be from neighboring lands invading you or the indirect threat of depleting food or other resources. If you run out of food, there are no consequences; you merely wait until you can acquire more the next day. Units don't need food to exist; they only need food to perform actions. While this feels balanced, it lacks a failure state. You can soft-lock yourself, which essentially means you need to take a break from the game until the next day.</p>
<h2>Review</h2>
<p>In future versions, I hope to see the introduction of threats such as invasions, much like in Mount and Blade, where you navigate a world map screen to travel to other lands and villages, before being thrust into a third-person battle, commanding and leading your units to a triumphant victory!</p>
<p>I had a fantastic experience with this current alpha, to the extent that I even checked on my village and made progress in my leisure time to unlock everything the current build offers. If the game continues its trend of positive development, as I have already experienced, it's going to be a game to look forward to at completion.</p>
