Overview

Alternates is an exciting first-person shooter game built on the blockchain platforms, Polygon and Telos. It combines the thrill of AAA gaming with the advancements of blockchain technology, offering a smooth entry for gamers by allowing sign-ins through Google Accounts and purchases via credit or debit cards.

Upon entering the game, players select a faction and dive into a world where strategy and allegiance shape every match. Each faction brings its own unique history and objectives into play, enriching the game's universe and adding layers to the player's involvement.

Gameplay and Features

Alternates offer a variety of game modes that challenge players to use both quick reflexes and tactical skills. Here's a closer look at each mode:

Search and Destroy

In this tense and tactical mode, two teams, attackers and defenders face off. The attackers aim to plant a bomb at designated sites, while defenders strive to stop them. Each player has only one life per round, heightening the intensity of play. Victory goes to the team that wins the most rounds. This mode is available in Competitive, Public Matches, and the Play-to-Earn (P2E) version.

Stronghold

This fast-paced mode requires teams to continuously adapt their strategies as designated locations or 'Strongholds' move around the map at fixed intervals. Teams must control these points to score, with the highest-scoring team declared the winner. Stronghold is playable in Competitive mode, Public Matches, and P2E version.

Site Control

Teams compete to capture or defend two strategic zones. Attackers win a round by capturing all zones, while defenders aim to prevent this within the time limit. The game continues until one team reaches the preset round win limit, claiming overall victory. Site Control is offered in Competitive mode, Public Matches, and P2E version.

Domination

Control is everything in Domination, where three strategic points must be captured and held across the map. To secure a point, players need to remain in the capture zone uninterrupted for a set duration, which decreases if teammates join in. This mode is available in Public Matches and the P2E version.

Team Deathmatch

The classic Team Deathmatch pits teams against each other in a race to reach a point limit or hold the highest score when time expires. In the event of a tie, the game enters overtime where the first team to score 10 points wins. Available in Public Matches and P2E version.

Capture the Flag

Teams must infiltrate the enemy's territory, capture their flag, and return it to their base while their own flag is secure. The team with the most captures at the end of the match wins. This mode is exclusive to Public Matches.

Tournament Mode

In Tournament Mode, teams of five players enter a fee-based competition across various game modes offered in P2E. The winner takes home the prize pool, while the second-place team breaks even on their investment. This mode encourages higher stakes for potentially greater rewards and is only available in the P2E version.

NFTs and Blockchain

The game uses blockchain technology (Polygon and Telos) to provide true ownership of in-game assets through NFTs. This means that items acquired in-game are owned outright by players, not just licensed as in traditional games. On the other hand, players who are not too keen on using blockchain can still use the traditional way of purchasing assets via credit and debit cards from the Alternates marketplace.

Alternates incorporates a robust Play-to-Earn model, allowing players to earn real-world rewards through gameplay. Players can engage in competitive matches, wager on outcomes, and trade in-game items for $ALT tokens, which can be converted to real cash.

How to Get Started

Alternates is still in early development, with its first open beta scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. For now, stay updated on all things Alternates by following them on their social media and joining their Discord server.
