Voxie Tactics

Introduction

Voxie Tactics is a retro-styled tactical RPG that is heavily influenced and inspired by the vein of classical 1990s and early 2000s tactics games, but with some modern twists sprinkled in and some updated gameplay mechanics to make the game feel both nostalgic and modern at the same time.

The characters are very collectible-friendly, with unique and cute designs. The game is free-to-play for anyone who wants to download it and get going, but the title’s NFT collection gives players advantages in the form of enhanced loot drops.

Gameplay

Voxie Tactics featured two core gameplay elements, Exploration and Battling. Your Voxies party is your tool to navigate these dangerous land in both actions.

Exploration

Voxie Tactics’ exploration mode adopts a story driven experience, pushing players to dive deeper into the title’s lore and background story of what brings these Voxies into the world. Players navigate through multiple locations, each with its own terrain and distinctive attributes. 

You have to complete the proposed questlines to explore diverse biomes, monsters and countless memorable NPCs. There is a total of 7 biomes; Grassy Hills, Desert, Snowy Tundra, Swamps, Volcanic Mountains, Cybernetic Realm, and Underground Caverns. Each biome has its own backstory and gives players tons of content to chew through.

Battling

This is where you test your skill and pit your Voxies against both other players and AI characters. Voxie Tactics features a turn-based battle system, with Move, Action, and Equip forming the three types of actions players can take each round.

• MOVE: Allows Voxies to traverse the battle map and position themselves strategically to allow for better combat advantages.
• ACTION: The selected attack, special ability or spell used to defend or in offence towards your enemy
• EQUIP: switch a Voxie’s equipment (armor and weapons) in the middle of a battle.

The direction of the character contributes to the success factor of your selected action, with your Voxie always facing one of four cardinal directions: north, east, south, or west. For example, melee attacks have the highest chance of success if done towards an enemy facing the opposite direction, slightly lower if from the sides, and the lowest chance if you are face-to-face with your enemy.

Review

Voxie Tactics is a casual game that you can just chill back while playing and watch cute voxels battle it out while you guide them. The layer of strategy the game brings to its players keeps you engaged and interested but with equipment and NFT rarities affecting your potential progression can be a dealbreaker.
