Introduction
Voxie Tactics is a retro-styled tactical RPG that is heavily influenced and inspired by the vein of classical 1990s and early 2000s tactics games, but with some modern twists sprinkled in and some updated gameplay mechanics to make the game feel both nostalgic and modern at the same time.
The characters are very collectible-friendly, with unique and cute designs. The game is free-to-play for anyone who wants to download it and get going, but the title’s NFT collection gives players advantages in the form of enhanced loot drops.
Gameplay
Voxie Tactics featured two core gameplay elements, Exploration and Battling. Your Voxies party is your tool to navigate these dangerous land in both actions.

Exploration
The game offers a story-driven exploration mode where players uncover the lore behind the Voxies’ world. Players can travel across multiple regions, each with unique terrain, challenges, and enemies. To progress, they must complete quests that introduce them to different biomes, monsters, and characters.
There are seven biomes in total: Grassy Hills, Desert, Snowy Tundra, Swamps, Volcanic Mountains, Cybernetic Realm, and Underground Caverns. Each biome has its own history and environmental hazards that require players to adapt their strategies. The latest updates have also improved visuals and performance, making exploration smoother and more immersive.
Battling
Combat in Voxie Tactics remains turn-based, requiring strategic positioning and decision-making. Players can issue commands in three categories:
- Move – Adjusts a Voxie’s position on the battlefield to gain tactical advantages.
- Action – Executes attacks, abilities, or spells to deal damage or support allies.
- Equip – Allows players to change weapons and armor during battle for better adaptability.
Positioning plays a critical role in combat. Attacking an enemy from behind increases the chances of success, while frontal assaults have a lower hit rate. This directional system encourages players to think ahead and use movement strategically.
To make battles more competitive, Voxie Tactics introduced the Pro Arena, a game mode designed for fair competition where all players have equalized gear stats, ensuring that skill matters more than equipment.

Additionally, the Unity Release in April 2024 brought significant graphical improvements, optimized performance, and better balancing across different classes and abilities. These updates refine the experience while keeping the game’s core mechanics intact.
Review
Voxie Tactics is a casual yet strategic RPG that offers a laid-back experience where players can watch their voxel characters battle while guiding them through tactical decisions. The game keeps players engaged with its depth of strategy, but the influence of equipment and NFT rarities on progression can be a drawback. This creates a pay-to-win element, which isn’t surprising given that the game was initially marketed as play-to-earn.
As of early 2025, the game has seen significant improvements in graphics and overall playability. However, one of the biggest challenges is the declining player base, largely due to market fluctuations and changes in the reward system. This has made finding opponents a time-consuming task, which can hinder the experience, especially for competitive players.
That said, if judged purely on gameplay, Voxie Tactics remains a solid tactical RPG. The core gameplay loop is well-designed, character progression feels rewarding, and the combat system offers a balanced meta when playing against opponents of a similar level. Matches in a fair environment tend to be strategically engaging, making for an enjoyable experience when the matchmaking works as intended.
