Overview

Voxie Tactics is a turn-based tactical RPG that takes place in a pixelated map, and requires careful planning, strategic positioning, and understanding of your characters' abilities to win battles. To play the game, the player will head to the Voxie website and download it and install it locally. New players have two options:, either free to play and own to play.

When choosing the free to play option, the player can select 3 of the available Voxies to make up your team. However, when doing this, choose carefully as the player will NOT be able to change them on the connected account unless you purchase additional Voxies. When purchasing Voxies make sure to understand the races’ special abilities as they interact with the classes that are available.

There are 9 races available; each race has one active and one passive ability as listed below:

Human

  • Inspire buffs the caster and allies in a small radius
  • Human Intuition gives the Voxie more XP from quests and battles.

Fox

  • Hit & Run allows you to attack and move away afterwards.
  • Foxy Agility increases the dexterity stat.

Doge

  • Doge & Apos’s Allure allows you to charm a single target during battle.
  • Doge & Apos’s Luckbox increases the luck stat.

Dragon

  • Blaze Breath is an Area of Effect attack that burns enemies, not allowing blocks or counters.
  • Dragonite Scales gives immunity to fire damage and takes reduced physical damage.

Skeleton

  • Throw Bones allows skeletons to attack at a distance, reducing enemies’ health and causing them to bleed.
  • Bone Rattler gives chance to stun on each attack, and health potions damage skeletons whilst poison heals them.

Robot

  • Electrical Surge can add electrical damage to attacks by an ally or the caster.
  • Absolute data increases the chance to hit on every attack.

Zombie

  • Not Quite dead allows for a chance at resurrecting with 1 health the first time the Zombie dies in battle.
  • Braindead makes Zombie’s immune to fear. The same effects as Skeletons apply, where health potions damages and poison heals Zombies.

Aliens

  • Beam Up allows to teleport across the battlefield.
  • Sentient Being makes Aliens immune to charms and confuse effects.

Red Robot

  • Cyber attack is an Area of Effect attack that has a chance at confusing enemies.
  • Artificial intelligence makes Red Robots ignore organic status effects like poisons.

Classes & Compositions

There are a total of 21 classes in Voxie Tactics that can be played. The 9 races’ abilities can be combined with these classes. To make it easier to digest, the classes are broken down into three main categories: Attacking (Tank & DPS), Hybrid (DPS & Utility & Healing) and Supporting (Utility & Healing). The Utility roles are based around buffing and debuffing Voxies.

In the attacking category you have; Warrior, Knight, Ranger, Black Mage, Necromancer, Hawknight, Ninja, Monk, Thief, Samurai and Monster classes.

The Attacking category is split into tanks and DPS based roles. Warriors, Knights, and Monks are Tanks whereas DPS roles are Black Mage, Necromancer, Hawknight, Ninja, Thief and Monster. The melee based DPS roles are Hawknight, Ninja, Thief and Monster whilst the others are ranged DPS.

In the Hybrid category you have the following options: Squire, White Mage, Chemist, Druid, Pirate and Robo. Being a Hybrid means that two roles are combined into one class. Squire’s and White Mages are DPS and utility hybrids. Chemists are Healing and Utility, Druids are DPS and Healing, Pirates are DPS and Tanks whereas Robo is a Tank and Utility hybrid.

In the Supporting category, the following classes are included: Bard, Time Mage, Priest and Ghost.

Bards, Time Mages and Ghosts are focused more on the supporting aspect whilst Priests are more healing focused.

Understanding the roles each class plays means you can better assemble your team especially prior to your first game! Figuring out your play style is extremely important because for an offensive approach the player will be picking three DPS based classes, however if the player prefers to play defensively, then the player is likely to pick a tank, a healer and DPS or Hybrid with a DPS edge. A ranged composition using White Mages, Black Mages and Necromancers is another alternative. However, with the sheer amount of classes the player can create various compositions to lead to victory.

As each unit has unique abilities that can turn the tide of battle, make sure you read the description of each ability and understand its effects. Some abilities can be used to damage multiple enemies at once, while others can disable or debuff enemy units. Each ability that is not a normal attack ability or race ability uses Mana Points (MP) or charge; the player has to take this into account as the battle progresses as it can render units less useful for example a Black Mage without MP is not able to cast spells but only use its’ basic attack. Use these abilities strategically to gain the upper hand in battles, especially depending on the state of each Voxie and its position on the map.

Positioning & Terrain

The terrain in Voxie Tactics can be used to your advantage. The Maps have varied terrain, which give higher grounds and lower grounds, with some of these even cause Voxies to not be attackable even though they are on the next tile. When using your team, make sure to use the terrain to your advantage, use cover to protect your units and avoid enemy fire. You can also use elevation to your advantage by placing your units on high ground to increase their accuracy and damage. This goes both ways and where units are placed on lower ground it means they are more susceptible to damage and decreased accuracy. Lastly, position your tanks in front to soak up damage while your ranged units attack from behind. Make sure your support units are within range to heal your other units.

Before you start engaging in the battle, take the time to assess the terrain and the enemy units. Plan out your positioning and make sure you understand the strengths and weaknesses of each unit in your team and the opponents’ team, so you'll need to adapt your strategy to each battle. For example, if you're facing a group of ranged enemies, you may want to prioritize on taking as little damage possible on the approach until your units can reach them whereas if you're facing multiple enemies with high HP, you may want to focus on using abilities that can deal damage to multiple enemies at once.

Tips & Tricks for Voxie Tactics

  • Decide on your Voxie team prior to choosing them in the free to play model, as you will not be able to re-roll without creating a new account.
  • Match your Voxie race with the appropriate class. For example, a Human Priest can buff the team and can heal the team whilst staying away from enemies.
  • As there is no tutorial, experiment with how terrains interact with your classes in the first few matches to avoid mistakes later on.
  • Applying buffs to allies early can pay off in longer battles, this also goes with cleansing debuff’s and applying regen which heals your Voxie.
  • Most melee attacks only work in horizontal and vertical directions. Make sure to move melee Voxies into the correct tiles prior to attacking.
  • Each class has a weakness against another class, when in battle take note of this to avoid making one of your Voxie extra vulnerable.
