Spider Tanks is a fast paced PVP brawler in which a player can choose from a variety of tank bodies, weapons and abilities. The game provides many options not just in terms of in game variables but also in choosing game modes. Additionally, players can decide whether they want to play with friends or solo. With such a large number of options to choose from, our Spider Tanks guide aims to make this game easier to understand and help you, the player, succeed in taking down your enemies.

Game Modes

When launching into Spider Tanks, you will be given the option of preparing your build in the Garage. From the same menu, you will be able to select 1 of 5 game modes that last a maximum of two minutes. The first one of these is Battle Matchmaking, where you are loaded into a random generated map with two other teammates to fight a 3v3 battle.

Battle Matchmaking

Within this game mode, there are several objective-based matches you will be randomly loaded into. We go through each one of them in our Spider Tanks guide below alongside tips on how to have an edge over your opponents from the get go.

Team Deathmatch

In this mode, the objective is to gain more kills than the opposing team. This is where it is important for the player to avoid being killed using the health pads that give the player ~50% health back. At the start of this mode, it is important for the player to analyze the opposition and strategize to avoid the opponent gaining the upper hand.

Kill Confirmed

Another simple to understand game mode in which the player must not just kill the opponent, but also collect the egg that is left behind from the wreck of the enemies’ tanks. At the end of the match, whichever team has the highest amount of confirmed kills will win. A strategy that a player could employ here is to guard ally eggs until the timer runs out and block the opponent from gathering these, this is great for when a team is ahead of their opponents.

Chicken Chaser

This is where the objective is for teams to collect the most chickens from the map and bring them to the barrels randomly placed around the map. Whilst throwing the chicken into the barrel, your tank will have to remain perfectly still to avoid resetting the timer, which takes around 1.5 seconds to complete. You can collect multiple chickens at once and put them into the barrel one by one. Killing an enemy with collected chickens does not release them. Take care when doing this as it makes you an easy target for the enemy. Prioritizing enemies, which are putting Chickens into the barrel, is highly effective in this mode.

Poultry Pusher

Within this mode, each team has a humongous chicken that needs to reach a designated place on the map. To make the chicken move, a team member needs to be within its close proximity; having two team members in near proximity allows the chicken to gain maximum movement. The progress bar for the chicken progress to its destination can be seen at the top of the screen and is shown alongside a pause, arrow down or arrow up symbol beside it.

Having two arrows pointing up shows the chicken is moving at maximum velocity. A down arrow means there are no allies close by and that an enemy is close to it, which will result in it slowly moving back to the start. The aim of this mode is to either be the first team to get the chicken fully moved to its destination or to have made the most progress by the end of the match. In this mode it is effective to have two team members moving the allied chicken forward whilst having the third member harass the opposing team.

King of the Hill

In King of the Hill, it is the team’s objective to control and defend a control point in the map which is randomly located. The mode begins with neutral possession and the control point has to be secured at first before the team gains points. Once secured the opposing team will have to neutralise and then secure the control point to gain points. This allows for a lot of close quarter battling and makes higher armoured Tanks efficient! Another highly effective method of fighting here is to have Area of Effect abilities ready to drop on the enemy team whilst they are defending the control point.

Capture the Flag

This mode is all about capturing the flag and protecting it as long as possible. Whilst holding the flag, the team gains points until the tank holding the flag is destroyed. The aim of this mode is to have the most points when the timer runs out. Great Team play in this mode is crucial, protecting the flag holder is of the utmost importance as keeping them alive for as long as possible can be the key to victory.

Exhibition

This is a mode that does not affect your Spider Tanks' Battle rating or has the ability to earn when playing. It is mainly meant for you and your friends to fight against each other. This mode can be used to test team tactics and compositions and improve upon them.

Shooting Range

In the Shooting Range, you can equip all currently available Tank bodies, weapons, colors and abilities to allow practicing them. This is a very important mode for new players as it allows them to find their play style and make informed choices should they wish to invest in bodies and weapons that have to be paid for. It is highly supportive for a new player that wishes to learn the movement of bodies as well as the trajectory of bullets fired from a variety of weapons.

Survival

Willing to test yourself against a vareity of enemy NPC’s seeing how long you can last? This is the game mode for you! The player begins the survival mode by equipping their desired Tank body, weapon and abilities and then shoots a bell to begin. This is a realistic game mode in which you face enemies in a 1v1 battle until you get killed, allowing you to test weapons and bodies durability in a tougher battle than against the dummies set out in the Shooting Range.

Maps

Death Canyon

This map features two sides of the Canyon with connecting bridges in the middle. The health pads are usually found just before or in the middle of these bridges imploring teams to fight to gain the middle ground and survive the longest using these health pads. The middle bridge features a set of barricades which block missiles and projectiles whilst allowing bullets from weapons like the Shocker to pass through them. It is highly effective here to use the barricades when fighting against enemies with a projectile bias whilst using elemental weapons that surpass the barricades.

Arctic Base

An icy land that features a bridge connecting two ice lands with another ice patch connecting them on the north side. Both connecting parts carry health pads and the water that separates these two lands does not have walls which means that projectiles and elemental weapons can be fired over them allowing both teams to stay at range.

Safe Haven

A map that has a set of walls in the middle with a railroad and two bases at each side. Most of the maps boundaries are covered in barricades and walls meaning that these can be used to shelter your tank from oncoming projectiles. Artillery and Air strike are particularly effective in this map.

Dragon Cave

The Dragon Cave is an exciting map that contains a dragon statue in the middle with a circle of stone land surrounding it. This creates a great environment for those who use faster tanks as they can use the middle statue to hide and the outer circle of land to get behind their enemies and attack them. This is one of the bigger maps in the game and therefore allows you to surprise enemies.

Forsaken City

Reminiscent of the popular map Rust in Call of Duty, this map features unique Teleport Pads, which instantly move you to the correlating pads on the other side of the map. Having a total of 4 Teleport pads allows both teams to use them to avoid and chase the enemy. A tactic that is highly effective when low on health and being chased by the enemy is to use a Teleport pad followed by using an attacking ability such as Air strike to land as the enemy teleports behind you. Another effective strategy here is to have a tank that uses a Flamethrower wait for an enemy to teleport through the part before sending their Tank up in smoke.

Steaming Stronghold

In Steaming Stronghold, there are moving parts of the map which can disappear; thus killing the players Tank whilst also having the sides of the map turning into a floor of lava damaging Tanks as they stand on it. Using the moving pipes on the map as well as staying safe of the lava floor is essential for winning here especially in game modes such Capture the Flag. Another effective tactic on this map is in the King of the Hill mode if the control point lands on the sides where the floor turns into lava. Using Area of Effect abilities here can quickly wipe out a team and using a healing Area of Effect ability can also save a team.

Free-to-Play Tank Options

As a new Spider Tanks player, there are 3 options for the Tank body if you select the free to play option. Overall there are 22 body options for a player, with most of them having to be purchased. The free to play options are as below:

Blink

Light body that has lower health but increased speed. Gains energy the slowest out of all 3 free to play options.

Scout

A medium light body that is a middle ground and has medium speed, medium health and is in the middle for gaining energy of all 3 options.

Snoop’s Bumpin’ Lowrider

The slowest but also toughest of all three options. This body also gains energy the quickest allowing you to use your abilities quicker than the other two options.

In addition to these bodies, in the free to play version of Spider Tanks, there are 3 weapon options that are rotated frequently. Free to play weapons are rotated on a frequent basis, however you are likely to see weapons such as the Beat blaster, Fire Artillery, Bouncer Gun to be found frequently. Each weapon deals either Physical or Elemental damage types. The Elemental weapons tend to create an effect such as the Stinger causing an opponent to be poisoned with every hit or the Snowballer slowing enemies that are in the snowy path the bullet leaves behind. The physical weapon types cause damage upon hit and usually have bullets travel in a direct or vertical trajectory.

Spider Tanks Abilities

The player has a choice of 20 abilities and they are able to equip 2 abilities to their spider tank to take into battle. Every ability requires energy that is created passively according to the rate of the body you have equipped. You must also be alive to be generating energy. These abilities can be categorised into 5 categories: Buffs & Debuffs, Turrets, Healing, Drone and Area of Effect abilities.

In the buff & debuff category the player has choice of: Decoy, Reactive Plating. Speed booster, and Shield projector. These abilities vary from being able to make your tank invisible for 2 seconds using Cloak drone to being able to take additional damage through Reactive Plating. A debuff ability that can be used is Graphnel Launcher that prevents the enemy tanks from using abilities or moving.

The Turret category contains a total of 3 turrets: Artillery, Cannon and Machine Gun turrets. All of them carry a different rate of fire and damage, with the Machine Gun firing the fastest whilst the Artillery turret deals the most damage. These turrets can be used to aid your play style. For example, if you are playing a long-range weapon type, using the Artillery turret compliments this.

There are two healing abilities, one being the Repair drone, which follows the player’s tank and heals it and if fully healed turns to an ally. The other is able to drop a Repair Zone that heals all ally tanks inside the zone. This is particularly useful when playing King of the Hill and dropping the Repair Zone on the control point when allies are damaged.

The drone abilities available to the player are plentiful with a total of 5 types of drones. These range from the Cloak drone, which turns a tank invisible briefly to the Shield drone, which provides an ally tank with a temporary shield. All of these drones have their own applicability for example if you are using a shotgun weapon, the relay drone can be useful to get you close to your enemies.

Lastly, the Area of Effect abilities include: Air Strike, Grenade, Stun Grenade, Repulsor Zone, Smoke Canister, Shield Projector and Vortex Zone. These range from delayed explosion seen by both types of Grenades to movement limiting effects seen by Vortex Zone that pulls enemies into its centre and Repulsor Zone, which ejects enemies to the edges of its effect zone. Each of these Area of Effect abilities are very useful when a team plays closely together, allowing you to cause a high amount of damage using Air Strike or limiting the enemies’ team sight using Smoke Canister.

Combining the Tank with Abilities

A big key to victory is matching your Tank’s build with your abilities. An example of this is a Tank build with a heavy armored base, a flamethrower weapon mixed with the abilities of Relay Drone + Vortex Zone that allows you to get very close to enemies and using Vortex Zone to keep enemies dragged in allowing you to melt them with the Flamethrower. The abilities here can vary to also use Cloak Drone + Stun Grenade where you surprise enemies and stun them with the grenade and to then them off with the Flamethrower weapon. Another example of a well matched ability and build would be a mobile body with healing turrets together with Repair Zone + Shield Projector allowing you to shield allies, heal them and then return damage with your turret.

Overall, it is up to the player to find the perfect combination will help them find success in Spider tanks.

Earning vs Non-Earning

When playing Spider tanks, the Battle Matchmaking allows the player to earn honor and points which are converted to Silk. However, using the free to play options does not allow you to play to earn when you create your own build. It only does if you check the Pilot box, this however does not allow the player to use their own build but rather the players get assigned a randomly created build with their two equipped abilities. Also, only the winning team is eligible for winning tokens that get turned into Silk.
