In Poppy Playtime Chapter 5, players face Huggy Wuggy and the Prototype while exploring Playtime Co. For those after the full story, VHS tapes are key collectibles that reveal deeper lore. This guide shows all 3 VHS tape locations and how to collect them efficiently.
How Many VHS Tapes in Chapter 5
There are 3 VHS tapes scattered through Chapter 5. These tapes are rarer than notes or audio logs and usually hidden in spots you might skip while fleeing from threats. Each tape expands on Playtime Co.’s experiments and secrets.
Tip
VHS tapes glow faintly in dark areas. Use your Flashlight or Blacklight to spot them more easily.
Tools You Need to Collect VHS Tapes
Before you can grab every tape, you'll need specific tools unlocked through normal progression:
Warning
You cannot backtrack to earlier sections once you progress past certain checkpoints. Grab each tape as you encounter it.
VHS Tape 1 Location: Post-Conveyor Belt
The first tape appears soon after the initial Huggy Wuggy chase. After dropping from the vent onto the conveyor belt section, make it through the chase and reach the platform with the “An Intercepted Communique” document. Check the shelving unit on your left before swinging across with the Grab Handle. The VHS tape is on the middle shelf, partly hidden by debris.
This tape covers early communications about Playtime Co.’s experimental toy program. Huggy Wuggy will attack soon after, so grab the tape quickly.
VHS Tape 2 Location: Light Puzzle Area
The second tape is in the light puzzle section, near the grinder machine. After you get the Flashlight, backtrack to the room with the broken window.
Use your Blacklight to reveal arrows on the floor and follow them to a side room you couldn’t access before. The VHS tape sits on a desk next to a broken television.
This recording shows ignored security protocols and explains how the Prototype gained control in the facility.
VHS Tape 3 Location: Biodiversity Lab
The last tape is in the Biodiversity Lab. After descending to the lab area with the “Lab Report: Medium Growth & Plantlife” note, look for a breakable vent on the right wall.
Use the Pressure Hand to smash it and crawl through into a locked storage room. The VHS tape is on a metal shelf next to chemical containers.
While here, you can also grab the “Reminder” note from the whiteboard. The tape shows Dr. Arkins discussing biological experiments and the plant-like growths in the lab. It’s key to understanding Playtime Co.’s full story.
Why You Should Collect All VHS Tapes
Watching all three tapes gives a clearer timeline of experiments, backstory for Dr. Arkins, and insight into the Prototype’s origins. Tapes aren’t required to finish Chapter 5, but they add important story details for completionists.
