Pirate Nation’s gameplay revolves around energy management and exploration in the procedurally generated Infinite Isles. Pirate Nation’s card-based combat system features five elemental affinities (fire, earth, lightning, air, water) and five expertise types (accuracy, speed, damage, evasion, health). Each pirate's unique combination of these traits determines their combat effectiveness. You can upgrade your ships to introduce new cards and enhance combat performance. The game includes both player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) modes, allowing you to test your skills against AI-controlled enemies in various quests or compete against other players in real-time for a competitive edge.

A key part of the combat system is the Gauntlet mode, which offers normal and hard difficulties with different rewards. Completing gauntlet challenges earns you Command Rank, unlocking trading and other in-game benefits. Deck building is vital for success, allowing you to create custom decks that align with your pirates' elemental affinities and expertise types. Exploration is a big part of Pirate Nation. You can dive on quests across the Infinite Isles, find hidden treasures, and fight creatures. The world is procedurally generated, so every quest is unique. Completing quests and bounties rewards you with items, resources, and XP, essential for leveling up your pirates and ships. Players can build settlement buildings, like the Shipwright, on their islands. These buildings act as player-owned businesses that other players can use for a fee. Building and upgrading these structures adds depth to the player economy and offers more ways to earn resources.

Pirate Nation hosts global events, such as world bosses and team-coordination challenges, introducing new mechanics and rewards.
