In a recent announcement made during a live Town Hall Twitter Spaces for Otherside, Yuga Labs and Improbable revealed they will be working more closely together to propel the development of the Otherside metaverse onto Improbable’s Msquared platform.
In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about how Yuga Labs and Improbable will be collaborating to bring the Otherside metaverse to life on Improbable’s Msquared platform, promising enhanced scalability and interoperability for a richer user experience.
Under this partnership, Yuga Labs will transition its Otherside metaverse onto Msquared, Improbable’s cutting-edge network of interconnected metaverses. Peter Lipka, COO and co-founder of Improbable, described Msquared as the pinnacle of metaverse-building technology, boasting shared infrastructure, assets, and avatars across interconnected worlds, all underpinned by web3 technology and Improbable’s Morpheus engine.
Key announcements regarding Otherside's development were unveiled during the event, including plans for upcoming events, a massive multiplayer event slated for July, and the introduction of the World Builder ODK (Otherside Developer Kit). This kit, an extension of the M2 ODK, empowers creators to craft their own immersive worlds within Otherside, fostering user-generated content and interoperability across metaverses.
Herman Narula, CEO of Improbable, emphasized the transformative nature of Otherside, highlighting its ability to host densely populated virtual spaces where players can coexist and interact seamlessly. Narula underscored the distinction between traditional MMOs and Otherside, citing the latter's capacity to accommodate large numbers of players within the same space, facilitated by high-fidelity graphics and immersive 3D audio.
“We are not trying to build MMOs. We have found a way to do that more effectively now with interactive entertainment happening at a large scale.”
Crucially, Msquared empowers developers and players alike to contribute to the evolution of the metaverse, blurring the lines between gaming and shared virtual experiences. Narula emphasized that while Improbable remains committed to serving the gaming industry, its focus has shifted toward providing a comprehensive metaverse infrastructure.
The collaboration between Yuga Labs and Improbable signifies a significant milestone in the evolution of Otherside, marking a bold step towards a more interconnected and immersive virtual experience. As Narula aptly stated, it is a resounding vote of confidence in Improbable’s vision for the future of the metaverse.
