The Wolves and Foxes quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the early missions in Naoe’s storyline. It becomes available after completing the Before the Fall quest and takes place in the Little Leaf Glade area of the Yamashiro province. The quest follows Naoe as she assists an Igan battalion in defending against Mitsuhide’s forces.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, developed and published by Ubisoft, is an action role-playing game marking the fourteenth major entry in the Assassin's Creed series. Following 2023's Assassin's Creed Mirage, Shadows unfolds in 16th-century Japan during the waning Sengoku period. The game dives into the enduring conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, champions of freedom and peace, and the Templar Order, proponents of peace through control.
Players experience this struggle through two distinct protagonists: Fujibayashi Naoe, a kunoichi (female ninja), and Yasuke, an African samurai inspired by the historical figure of the same name. Each character offers unique gameplay styles, fostering diverse approaches to quests and challenges. Shadows launched on March 20th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and macOS, with an iPadOS version slated for future release. Critically, the game garnered positive reviews upon its debut.
Upon reaching the location, players will find a large battle underway between Igan warriors and soldiers under Mitsuhide’s command. The objective is to eliminate all enemy soldiers before proceeding to speak with Tokugawa Ieyasu. Once the area is cleared, a conversation with Tokugawa follows, where he expresses gratitude for the assistance provided by Naoe and Yasuke. He then reveals his plan to resist Mitsuhide with the support of Hattori Hanzo, opting to wait for the right moment to act. At this point, players must choose between two dialogue options, each reflecting a different approach to the situation.
The decision in this conversation revolves around whether to support Tokugawa’s cautious strategy or push for immediate action. Players can either respond as Yasuke, advocating for patience, or as Naoe, urging a more aggressive stance. If Yasuke’s response, “We will be patient,” is chosen, he references his mother’s saying that “Haste leads to waste.” Tokugawa agrees, explaining that his primary goal is peace and that patience will be essential in achieving it.
This response reinforces the idea that a measured approach will provide the best outcome in the conflict. Alternatively, if Naoe’s response, “Patience will not stop Mitsuhide,” is selected, she expresses skepticism about waiting and argues that the enemy is acting aggressively and without hesitation. Tokugawa, however, remains firm in his stance, reiterating that patience will ultimately be the key to victory.

Despite the differing perspectives presented in the dialogue, the overall outcome of the quest remains the same regardless of which response is chosen. Tokugawa’s plan does not change, and the mission proceeds as intended. While the choice allows players to express their preferred approach to the conflict, it does not alter the broader progression of the story.
The Wolves and Foxes quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows provides insight into the differing perspectives on strategy within the game’s narrative. While Yasuke and Naoe offer contrasting viewpoints on how to handle the conflict with Mitsuhide, Tokugawa remains committed to his approach. The quest emphasizes the complexities of decision-making in warfare, but ultimately, patience remains a central theme in this part of the story.
