Ubisoft has announced a new partnership with Magic Eden to launch its latest web3 game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., following initial playtests. This game, which is set to debut on the Arbitrum blockchain, will be the first title on the network to mint NFTs on Magic Eden’s marketplace. This collaboration signifies Ubisoft’s growing interest in the web3 space, as it seeks to leverage blockchain technology to enhance player experience and engagement.

Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. is based on the popular Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The G.A.M.E. features iconic characters from various Ubisoft franchises and the industry’s most popular IPs, such as Rayman, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Rainbow Six, and many others. The G.A.M.E. occurs within Eden, a dystopian world where players become citizens.
The entire Eden community will collaborate, overcoming challenges across various channels within and outside the Ubisoft ecosystem, to raise their citizen score and gain greater decision-making power for survival. In this game, players aren’t only content consumers but active participants in shaping the cyberpunk world of Eden and its story. Players will have a say in the game through a robust web3 governance system built on the Arbitrum blockchain.

One of the key features of Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. will be its unique Citizen ID NFTs. Although a specific release date has not been disclosed, Ubisoft plans to mint 10,000 of these NFTs as part of the first wave. Each Citizen ID NFT will offer various benefits, including early access to the game, exclusive features, and a role in governance activities.
The value and power of each Citizen ID will evolve based on a player’s activity within the game, including their rankings and achievements. Players who perform well will gain access to additional rewards and exclusive features. An integral part of the Citizen ID is its governance function, which gives holders the right to participate in key decisions related to the game’s plot and direction.

Ubisoft aims to engage the community by offering players a stake in the game’s future through these voting rights. The Citizen ID NFTs will be dynamic, meaning their stats will change in real-time according to the holder’s in-game activity, further incentivizing engagement.
This concept of dynamic NFTs is becoming increasingly popular in the web3 gaming industry, where utility is a crucial factor for NFT adoption. As the overall NFT trading volume remains relatively slow in 2024, Ubisoft’s decision to release Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on Arbitrum and its partnership with Magic Eden demonstrates a continued effort to innovate within the space.

Ubisoft’s collaboration with Magic Eden is not its first venture into the web3 world. The company previously launched Champions Tactics on the Oasys blockchain, demonstrating its growing interest in the integration of blockchain technology into its gaming ecosystem.
