Ubisoft has clarified the reasons behind the recent six-day delay in reporting its latest earnings, dispelling rumors that the company had been sold or had split from its largest investor, Tencent. During the earnings call, CEO Yves Guillemot explained that the delay stemmed from the appointment of new auditors in July and the need to restate the company’s 2025 fiscal accounts.
The revisions were related to revenue recognition issues from two partnerships, one from the prior fiscal year and another booked in the summer. CFO Frederick Duguet added that the restatement caused Ubisoft to temporarily breach its leverage covenant under certain financing agreements.
The company addressed this by repaying the affected debt instruments early, using proceeds from the ongoing Tencent investment. Despite the accounting updates, Ubisoft reported €491 million ($567 million) in net bookings for the July - September quarter, exceeding guidance and marking a 39% increase compared to the same period last year.
Performance of Key Franchises
Ubisoft highlighted strong performance across its major franchises. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, released in March 2025, recorded approximately 211 million session days, roughly 35% higher than the average over the previous two years.
Updates to Assassin’s Creed Mirage have also increased the title’s lifetime player count past 10 million. Rainbow Six Siege continued to attract players and maintain session activity, although a temporary increase in cheating affected overall player spending. Ubisoft said it has identified the issues and is implementing corrective measures.
The company confirmed that its partnership with Tencent remains on track. Tencent is expected to invest €1.16 billion ($1.25 billion) in Ubisoft subsidiary Vantage, which oversees projects for Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
Staffing and Cost Management
Ubisoft also reported ongoing reductions in its workforce as part of its cost-saving strategy. Headcount has decreased to 17,097 at the end of September, down from 17,782 in March and significantly lower than the nearly 21,000 employees in 2022. The company said these measures are part of broader efforts to streamline operations while maintaining focus on its key game franchises.
Generative AI Integration in Game Development
During the earnings call, Guillemot discussed Ubisoft’s adoption of generative AI technology across its studios. The company has moved from prototyping to applying AI in practical ways, including player-facing neo NPCs, which are AI-driven characters that respond to player interactions. Teams are exploring AI use cases in programming, art, and game quality improvement, indicating a commitment to integrating the technology across both player experience and production workflows.
Upcoming Game Releases for Early 2026
Ubisoft confirmed plans to release four titles in the first three months of 2026. These include mobile games Rainbow Six Siege Mobile and The Division Resurgence, as well as a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. A fourth game has not been announced, but industry sources suggest it may be a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. These releases continue Ubisoft’s focus on leveraging its popular franchises while expanding into mobile and remastered content.
