Triumph Games Acquires Legends of Elumia

Game developer and publisher Triumph Games has officially announced the acquisition of Legends of Elumia, a fantasy MMORPG powered by the Ronin blockchain. Previously accessible mainly to NFT holders and participants in a limited-time event through the Ronin Game Pass, the game is now set to undergo changes under new ownership. Triumph Games plans to introduce a free-to-play model with the goal of making the title more accessible to a broader player base on both PC and mobile platforms.

The move represents a strategic shift for Legends of Elumia, which had originally focused on a gated approach to gameplay. Until now, access was limited to Genesis NFT holders or those who purchased a time-sensitive pass to take part in events such as leaderboard challenges and a $100,000 raffle. The new direction being proposed by Triumph Games will eliminate these restrictions, offering a more traditional free-to-play experience for players, regardless of whether they engage with web3 elements.

About Legends of Elumia

One of the defining features of Legends of Elumia is its commitment to true digital ownership. Through blockchain technology, players have full control over their characters, pets, and in-game items. This model allows users to trade, sell, and interact with their assets in a decentralized economy, a feature that distinguishes web3 games from traditional MMORPGs.

Free-to-Play Transition and Accessibility Plans

While full details of the new free-to-play model have not yet been made public, Triumph Games has emphasized that their approach is centered on ease of access. The company has not specified how monetization will be handled, but there are expectations that the game will avoid a pay-to-win structure.

It remains unclear if there will be changes to the development team or other aspects of the game’s production. More clarity is expected to emerge during an upcoming X Space session hosted by Triumph Games on April 10th, titled “The Future of Games: Ep 18 - We Bought an MMO.” The event will explore the studio’s plans for Legends of Elumia, alongside broader topics including web3 gaming and the role of the creator economy.

Triumph Games’ Position in Web3 Gaming

Triumph Games operates as both a publisher and developer, with a focus on games that combine traditional free-to-play design with optional web3 integrations. Their model gives players the opportunity to own in-game collectibles, allowing for real asset ownership without making it a prerequisite for participation. This approach enables users to engage with their games in a familiar way, while also offering additional features for those interested in blockchain-enabled ownership.

The studio’s first title, BattleRise, is a turn-based fantasy RPG currently available for free on Android and iOS. It supports multi-chain integration and joined the Beam Network earlier in 2024. Triumph Games is also preparing to launch ArmourX, a third-person action RPG with looter shooter elements. It is set in a futuristic environment and is expected to enter closed beta soon, following its early access release on HyperPlay in December 2024.

In addition to developing its own titles, Triumph Games provides a range of services including game development, NFT design, marketing support, and strategic advising. The company’s founders have worked in the industry since 1998 and have released over 20 games. Their current team includes more than 30 specialists with expertise in Unity, Unreal Engine, blockchain technology, and software development.

The Future of Legends of Elumia

Legends of Elumia has been part of the web3 gaming space since 2022 and recently migrated to the Ronin blockchain. Initially available on Windows for NFT holders, the game also announced a mobile version in late 2024. With the acquisition by Triumph Games, the game is expected to reach a wider audience and adopt a more inclusive model. While specific development plans are still pending, the overall direction points to greater accessibility and integration within the studio’s broader web3 gaming ecosystem.

As Triumph Games moves forward with the transition, both existing players and new audiences will be watching closely to see how the changes unfold. The studio’s efforts to combine web2 and web3 experiences in a user-friendly manner could serve as a model for similar games looking to bridge the gap between traditional and blockchain-based gaming.
