In a strategic move towards advancing web3 adoption in the gaming sphere, esports organization Team Liquid has forged a partnership with Mysten Labs, the web3 infrastructure company that played a pivotal role in the development of the blockchain platform Sui. The primary objective of this collaboration is to revamp Team Liquid's fan loyalty program, known as Liquid+, with a focus on highlighting Sui's evolving gaming ecosystem and driving increased fan engagement.
Team Liquid initially launched Liquid+ in 2021, offering fans exclusive content, match schedules, and a unique points system tied to their engagement with the esports organization. The revamped loyalty program takes a significant leap forward by allowing fans to earn and own digital collectibles through their interactions. These digital collectibles can be used to personalize avatars in the image of Blue, Team Liquid's iconic mascot, with some unlocking additional rewards and exclusive experiences.
Claire Hungate, President and COO of Team Liquid, emphasized the long-term nature of true fandom, stating, "Real fandom doesn't happen in a single moment. It needs to be nurtured and sustained through experiences that strengthen the tether between team and fan." The partnership with Mysten Labs and integration of Sui is seen as a testament to Team Liquid's commitment to innovation in esports fandom.
Claire Hungate further highlighted the potential of the collaboration to offer fans new experiences and exclusive rewards, deepening their engagement with Team Liquid, its players, and teams. The goal is not only to enhance the fan experience but also to drive the adoption of web3 technology within the esports community.
Evan Cheng, Co-founder and CEO of Mysten Labs, acknowledged the passion of esports fans and stressed that the collaboration would facilitate better connections with them while introducing gaming experiences on Sui that center around the player's overall enjoyment. In a press release, Evan commented, "we see this partnership as a significant advancement for web3-powered gaming and expressed excitement about working alongside Team Liquid to bring it to fruition."
In addition to the relaunched loyalty program, Team Liquid, and Mysten Labs are set to collaborate on marketing and growth initiatives to support games on the Sui platform. This multifaceted approach will encompass content creation, events, sponsored streams, and more.
This partnership marks Team Liquid's continued exploration of web3 gaming, following their collaboration with NFT auto-battler Illuvium in November 2023. As both entities unite their expertise, the esports community can anticipate a new chapter in fan engagement and web3-powered gaming experiences.
