SuperGaming, the developer behind the battle royale game Indus, recently addressed speculation regarding the potential integration of web3 elements into the game. This clarification comes after an alleged "Web3 Development Timeline" surfaced, suggesting milestones related to NFT drops, a token launch, and blockchain partnerships. The company responded to inquiries, emphasizing that these details do not represent an official announcement.
SuperGaming issued a statement explaining that the leaked timeline was not shared as an official announcement but rather appeared as part of a third-party publishing proposal. The company stated that the circulating information was not an official announcement made on Discord but rather a glimpse into one of many tabs open during a live session. It clarified that SuperGaming has explored various emerging technologies, including blockchain, and that the slide in question was part of an inbound publishing proposal submitted by a third party among many other proposals received.
The company emphasized that there are currently no plans to integrate web3 into Indus and that its primary focus remains on delivering an exceptional gaming experience. Additionally, SuperGaming assured that any major developments related to Indus would be shared officially and transparently. Given this clarification, any previously reported launch timelines for Indus, both in India and globally, are also unconfirmed. Fans of the game will have to wait for an official announcement regarding the release date.
Web3 Development Timeline
The controversy began when a screenshot of an alleged web3 timeline surfaced, reportedly shared during an Indus Discord live stream on June 6, 2024, during the "IndusOG Birthday Celebrations" event. The timeline suggested several milestones, including the development start, an Indus Creator Tournament in August 2023, the "Cosmium Clutch" esports tournament in November 2023, and the commencement of a closed beta in January 2024.
The timeline also mentioned a potential blockchain partnership, an announcement regarding an NFT marketplace in October 2024, and a future NFT store and token launch. Although SuperGaming has dismissed these as unofficial plans, the presence of blockchain-related milestones has raised concerns among players, especially considering the company’s previous statements about Indus not being a web3 game.
Indus Open Beta Trailer
Despite the official denial of web3 integration, some industry observers believe SuperGaming's previous ties to blockchain and cryptocurrency investments fuel speculation. The company has received backing from investors such as Fourth Revolution Capital and Infinity Ventures Crypto.
Additionally, CEO Roby John has engaged with web3-focused platforms like Ryze Labs, discussing potential ventures into blockchain gaming. In 2022, SuperGaming partnered with WazirX co-founder Siddharth Menon to develop Tegro, a crypto marketplace for web3 games. However, the collaboration was short-lived, as both parties parted ways within months.
As of now, SuperGaming has not made any further official announcements regarding the alleged web3 plans or confirmed launch dates. Until an official statement is issued, speculation will likely continue within the gaming community. For now, fans can only wait for an official announcement regarding the future of Indus and whether web3 elements will play any role in its development.
