In the ever-evolving world of web3, a new exciting partnership has just been announced between thirdweb and Optimism. Together, the two are launching the Superchain App Accelerator, a $3 Million fund for Superchain developers to build seamless on-chain apps. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about the latest partnership and $3M Fund, as well as implications for web3 and the blockchain ecosystem as a whole.
To bring the next billion users on-chain, consumer apps must reduce gas fees and blockchain complexity from users, providing them with seamless onboarding and UX. This has already led to several breakout consumer crypto apps across industries like digital collectibles, gaming, and social media.
But even with major upgrades coming to Ethereum (such as the 10-100x gas fee reductions coming to Layer 2s from EIP-4844) building an app with on-chain UX can be costly for developers if they subsidize users’ transactions. To this end, thirdweb is teaming up with Optimism to bring the costs of building and using on-chain apps to zero. To supercharge the next generation of consumer crypto.
The Superchain App Accelerator offers grants to Superchain developers so that they can build apps with seamless end-user experiences.
Available on the following networks:
Upon mainnet release, credits will also be available on the following networks:
The team are launching this program by offering $450,000 worth of gas credits to developers for paymaster usage on any Superchain network. They believe that a key catalyst for on-chain adoption is to abstract away gas fees and blockchain complexity from users. In short, providing them with seamless onboarding and user experiences.
Therefore, the team is launching the first phase of the Superchain App Accelerator with paymaster credits. So that developers can offset their users' transaction costs via smart accounts. These will be granted as credits to approved builders in the following three segments:
The team will roll out the rest of the credits in the program throughout the year. To be distributed amongst the following activities for Superchain builders:
Paymaster usage (Now live): Use gas credits to subsidize users’ transactions on your app with smart accounts — so they can sign up with just an email or social account, and get the best UX with no transaction popups, gas fees, or external wallets.
Dashboard (Coming soon): Use gas credits on the thirdweb Dashboard to deploy smart contracts, mint NFTs, and perform on-chain actions so you can build your app at zero cost.
Full thirdweb stack (Coming soon): Put your credits towards usage of any product in thirdweb’s stack, including:
In summary, the partnership between thirdweb and Optimism to launch the Superchain App Accelerator, along with its $3 million fund, marks a significant step forward in web3 development. This initiative not only supports Superchain developers but also holds broader implications for the blockchain ecosystem. It signals a promising future where on-chain applications become more seamless and accessible, hinting at a new era of innovation and inclusivity in digital interaction.
