Splinterlands Reveals Voucher System Overhaul

Splinterlands, the popular blockchain trading card game, is set to undergo significant changes to its Voucher system starting August 15th. This overhaul aims to simplify the gameplay experience and enhance accessibility for new players. Here’s a detailed look at what these changes entail and how they will impact the game’s ecosystem.

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a browser-based trading card game built on the Hive blockchain, offering play-to-earn features. Utilizing Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) as the primary in-game currency and Splintershards (SPS) as a governance token, Splinterlands blends deck-building mechanics with auto-battler gameplay.

Players construct combat lineups based on match rules, engaging in auto-battle until one team emerges victorious. Rewards include Glint currency, distributed at the end of every two-week season, which can be used to acquire cards and other in-game items. Additionally, the top 50 players in each season receive DEC token payouts.

Overview of the Changes

The initiative to revamp the Voucher system was prompted by a successful community proposal in July. As of August 15th, several key adjustments will be implemented:

  1. Integration of In-Game Liquidity Pool: Voucher rewards from Validator and SPS staking will now be directly integrated into the in-game economy. This eliminates the need for separate transactions to convert rewards, streamlining the user experience.
  2. Trading Restrictions: Trading Vouchers on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) such as Tribaldex and Hive Engine will no longer be possible. This move is intended to consolidate trading within the game environment and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Utility Shift to DEC: Voucher-based discounts for Validator licenses will be phased out, enhancing the utility of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) within the game. Players will still have a limited time to use Vouchers for certain purchases until August 31st.
  4. Upcoming Changes on September 3rd: Additional updates scheduled for September 3rd include the introduction of an in-game DEC/Voucher liquidity pool, a new Voucher Store, and a burn tax on Voucher transfers. The Splinterstorm Skin Shop will also be closing, encouraging players to make their final purchases before the deadline.

Future Developments and Community Engagement

Beyond these immediate changes, Splinterlands is actively engaging its community in shaping future updates. Multiple polls are currently open for player feedback on topics ranging from win trading policies to tournament formats and entry fees. These polls reflect the game’s commitment to inclusivity and responsiveness to player preferences.

Expansion of Game Content for Rebellion Set

In conjunction with the Voucher system overhaul, Splinterlands is expanding its Rebellion set on August 15th. This expansion introduces 43 new cards with unique abilities and allows owners of Chaos Legion soulbound reward cards the option to unbind them for tradeability.

Final Thoughts

The upcoming changes to Splinterlands’ Voucher system mark a significant step towards enhancing user accessibility and gameplay integrity. By integrating rewards directly into the in-game economy and refining trading mechanisms, the game aims to provide a more streamlined and rewarding experience for all players.

As Splinterlands continues to evolve, community feedback remains crucial in shaping its future direction. Players are encouraged to participate in ongoing polls and discussions to contribute to the game’s ongoing development.
