In a bid to re-energize its player community and draw in new participants, Splinterlands has embarked on a comprehensive overhaul of its base game, starting with a significant revamp of the ranked battles system. These changes encompass everything from matchmaking mechanics to summoner requirements and league rewards. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about all the latest updates to Splinterlands.
The latest alterations to the mechanics of ranked gameplay in Splinterlands aim to breathe new life into the auto-battler/trading card game, eliminating incentives for players to camp at lower levels of the ranked leagues.
One notable change is the removal of Summoner limits by League. Players are now free to use any level Summoner at any rank, with the Summoner level determining the maximum level of other cards usable during a match.
This adjustment aligns with the new ranking system, where players are no longer restricted to a specific league. League progression is now automatic, with a 20-point increase for a win (or 40 with a win streak of 3 or more consecutive wins) and a corresponding 20-point decrease for a loss.
Matchmaking has also undergone a significant transformation, now pairing players based on rating, irrespective of their league. Additionally, all ranked rewards, excluding Champion League, have been removed. Daily Chest rewards and Seasonal Chest rewards remain, with better drop chances for higher-ranked leagues. The SPS reward pools no longer differentiate between leagues, while Modern and Wid formats maintain separate token pools for rewards.
Despite the initial challenges as accounts adjust to the new ranking system, these changes are expected to benefit the Splinterlands community. The adjustments should lead to fewer mismatches for new players, encouraging them to enhance their collections through card acquisition to improve their rank and receive better rewards. For further details on these Ranked Battle changes, refer to the official blog post on the Splinterlands website.
Splinterlands has faced a gradual decline in active players, prompting the need for a boost to regain lost momentum. The recent overhaul, implemented on February 29th, has already resulted in an increase in active players.
The Splinterlands team is reportedly planning additional improvements, particularly focusing on the New Player Experience (NPE). These include one-click set rentals, a new rewards system, and an enhanced onboarding process for newcomers. Details about these plans are anticipated in the near future.
Splinterlands is a browser-based play-to-earn trading card game operating on the Hive blockchain. Featuring two tokens, Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) and Splintershards (SPS), Splinterlands combines elements of deck-building and auto-battler gameplay.
Players construct combat lineups using cards based on match rules, with battles running automatically until one team prevails. Rewards are earned through match victories, Daily Quests, Seasonal rewards, and a recurring two-week leaderboard contest.
