Spellborne Introduces Breeding Feature with New Rewards

Developer Mon Studios has introduced two significant updates to its free-to-play MMORPG, Spellborne. Players can now access a new breeding feature and progress through the Stellar Pass, a revamped battle pass system offering exclusive rewards.

The Spellborne IP

Spellborne, formerly Defimons, is a retro-inspired massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure built by Mon Studios, whose development team boasts gaming experts who have contributed to acclaimed titles such as Rainbow Six Siege and Dark Souls 3. Spellborne is currently in development and is set to go live by the end of February 2024 as a mobile-first title.

Reinventing Classic MMORPGs

Set in the vibrant city of Isogashi, Spellborne follows the exploits of three intrepid children embarking on a quest to pursue their dreams amidst a world teeming with magic and menacing creatures. Their odyssey unfolds against the backdrop of looming threats posed by awakening guardians capable of unleashing catastrophic havoc.

Open-Ended Narrative, Quests and Mini-Games

One of the game's standout features is its open-ended narrative structure, allowing players the freedom to shape their adventures through many choices and paths. This dynamic storytelling approach ensures that every player's journey through Spellborne is unique, fostering replayability and personalized experiences.

Beyond its ever-evolving narrative, Spellborne offers numerous activities for players seeking a break from their epic quests. From crafting and farming to engaging in various mini-games the game seamlessly integrates classic gaming elements with contemporary twists, catering to a diverse range of player preferences.

Breeding Feature Overview

The new breeding feature allows players to create new monsters by combining two existing ones. To utilize this system, players must select one male and one female monster from the same egg group, regardless of breed. There are six different egg groups in total, and while both monsters must belong to the same group, they don’t have to be of the same species.

When monsters are bred, they are permanently removed from the player's collection, referred to as "burning." The resulting child will always inherit the breed of the female parent, and the offspring will be male by default. However, players have the option to pay 25 Gold Nuggets to ensure the new monster is female, allowing for more breeding opportunities.

Breeding Feature Overview

The child's stats are randomly generated, based on a range derived from the stats of both parents. For example, if the male monster has 40 ATK and the female has 50 ATK, the child will receive a random ATK stat within that range. To gain more control over the stats, players can use specialized items called Anklets. There are seven types of Anklets, each corresponding to a specific stat such as health or stamina. However, Anklets are consumed in the breeding process, along with the parents.

This new breeding mechanic is seen as a means to help control inflation in the game’s economy before monsters become NFTs. Players can begin breeding by visiting the Petz Store in the game’s first city, where they can select the monsters to be bred.

Stellar Pass Overview

The Stellar Pass is an upgraded battle pass system, adding more depth to the game’s daily and weekly missions. Players can complete these missions to earn experience points (XP), helping them level up through the pass and unlock rewards. The pass offers 50 levels of progression and provides various in-game rewards, including three exclusive skins, six unique tools, profile borders, emojis, and more than 150 Gold Nuggets.

Notably, skins earned through the Stellar Pass are slated to become NFTs, according to information shared in Spellborne's official Discord. This adds an extra layer of value to the rewards, making them more desirable for players looking to invest time in the game.

Golden Ages

The Stellar Pass is also a paid feature, costing $15. Players can purchase it from the Seasons menu and can also buy additional levels for 10 Gold Nuggets each. Rewards obtained from the pass are exclusive and will not be available in the game’s store for at least 12 months, adding to their rarity.

The current theme of the pass is titled “Golden Ages of Celestia,” with each month introducing new themed rewards. Missions range from simple tasks like logging into the game to more involved activities, such as feeding crops to monsters. The developers plan to introduce new types of missions in future updates to keep the content engaging.

Community and Seasonal Rewards

Players who purchase or gift a Stellar Pass subscription are rewarded with Store Points, a currency used to track player activity. Purchasing the pass earns players 100 Store Points while gifting a subscription provides 150 Store Points per gift. Store Points, alongside other in-game currencies, are tied to the upcoming token airdrop for Spellborne's first season, giving players more incentives to engage with the game.

Final Thoughts

The launch of the breeding feature and Stellar Pass marks a significant development for Spellborne. These updates not only provide new gameplay mechanics and rewards but also introduce new ways for players to shape their in-game experiences. With the potential for monsters and skins to become NFTs, Spellborne continues to evolve, offering players more dynamic and rewarding content.
